NYU Accelerated BSN Spring 2011 Applicants

Published

Hey all! I've learned tons over the past months reading the different threads here. I am getting ready to start my application for the NYU aBSN program for Spring 2011, so I thought I'd start a new thread for anyone else who may be applying. I will be graduating from the University of Florida in December with a degree in nutrition. I've always wanted to go to NYU, so getting into this program would be a dream come true.

I will be attending the open house on August 10th to get some more information, so I will definitely check back and post what I find out.

So is there anyone else out there that's in the same boat as me? I'd love to hear from yall!!

I just received my acceptance letter today. It was mailed out Nov 18. I applied Oct 31 right before their deadline so my application was processed really fast.

I'm not sure I'm going to attend. I would have to relocate from CA in less than 2 months and the tuition is so expensive. The clinical locations looks awesome though.

Hello everyone!

I have a quick question: I'm trying to decide which classes to take in the spring semester at the college of nursing and so far I have registered for Chemistry, A&P, Statistic I and Nutrition & Health. I need some advice on this combination since I think I have read somewhere that it is better to take Chemistry first and then A&P the following semester...is this true?

I need advice from all of you who already took the prereqs!! I'm a regular traditional BSN student and I don't have a previous bachelor so I have no idea about the science classes etc. I have already took all my sociology electives, lib. art electives, foreign language and writing classes.

All your help is greatly appreciated!!!

I am still awaiting news. I called today to be sure they had received all of my materials... they said they had. They did not tell me anything about getting in. :(

My school actually required chemistry to be completed before taking A&P. I'd recommend taking chemistry before because when you're studying the different systems like renal or digestive you talk a lot about ion gradients and how they change. I think if you weren't well versed in chemistry you might struggle at certain areas. If you took AP Chem or regular chem in high school and had a thorough understanding you'd be fine.

Thank you so much for your reply politics99!

I think you're right because I read the same thing somewhere else. I took chemistry in high school but I don't remember much and it was a few years back. So I'll probably wait and take A&P next semester!

Thank you and congrats for getting in!!!

You might want to check out how your A&P course is structured at your college because you might be able take chemistry concurrently with the first semester of A&P. For my A&P, most of the chemistry stuff like blood buffers and ion gradients are in the 2nd semester.

But the safest route would to take Chemistry before hand since its been a while since you've seen the material.

hello everyone!

I have recently been accepted to the absn program and I look forward to meeting everyone soon. For those of you who have also been accepted, have you heard anything about taking a basic life support course before the semester starts? I believe nyu will offer one a few weeks before the program start date. . I am also interested in talking to someone who is already in the program for advice and what to expect, if anyone knows someone can you please let me know? I am also finishing up my pre-reqs now at nyu, and I have lived in the ny area my whole life so those of you that need advice about moving here, the area just ask!

see you soon!

Chrissy

anyone know if Adult & elder 1 is in a nursing home? My clinical site is NYU hospital for joint diseases but the location site says "Jewish Home." Anyone have any ideas?

Hey all,

I sent in my application for the NYU accelerated spring program back in October and still haven't heard anything yet. I called the admission office last week (around Nov. 16) and they said my application was being reviewed and that they would notify everyone within 3 weeks. Well for those of you who are waiting to hear just like me it doesn't look good because they have some deadlines for health forms that have to be submitted by Dec. 2 which is next thursday for new students. I think they sent out all the acceptance letters before thanksgiving break. I could be wrong about this but it wouldn't make sense for them to send out more acceptance letters right before that Dec. 2 deadline. I think they filled their roster and are set to move forward, however, I hope I am wrong.

Btw here is the link with all the new student information including the deadline dates:

Hi a couple things...

Kika - I did it all backwards. I took Microbiology first, then ap1 then took Chemistry along with Statistics and ap2. You should be fine.

Chrissy- NYU has a cpr/BLS class on Jan 21st. Check your acceptance packet for how to register

Chanzer 11 - NYU is affiliated with Jewish Home Lifecare so maybe here? Bronx or Manhattan? How did you find out? Are you already registered for classes?

Big Noob - the packet says to contact the school if you are accepted after the DEC 2nd deadline. they told me that they would let me know a decision before Dec 15th.

They are still reviewing applications. Grrrrr. This is driving me insane. My guess is they are waiting to get the deposit from those that have already been accepted. Then they will go back and re-review the rest. HATE waiting.
