NYU Accelerated BSN Spring 2011 Applicants

Published

Hey all! I've learned tons over the past months reading the different threads here. I am getting ready to start my application for the NYU aBSN program for Spring 2011, so I thought I'd start a new thread for anyone else who may be applying. I will be graduating from the University of Florida in December with a degree in nutrition. I've always wanted to go to NYU, so getting into this program would be a dream come true.

I will be attending the open house on August 10th to get some more information, so I will definitely check back and post what I find out.

So is there anyone else out there that's in the same boat as me? I'd love to hear from yall!!

Chinofish,

I'm still waiting to hear and also applied by the october 1 deadline. I'm going to try calling admissions this morning. Waiting and trying to be patient is really difficult! What is your experience and gpa like?

Ash

Whoops! I sincerely apologize for posting personal information, thank you for the reminder. Ash you should definitely email someone in the admissions department to find out more about your status, don't bother calling because I was given erroneous information when I called.

As for my stats I fall into that group of applicants who I guess can be called 180 students. Poor past academic performance, followed by marginal improvement but the harm already done. That said my gpa is an unimpressive 3.0 but my pre req gpa is close to a 3.5- 3.6. I've been out of school and working with the NYC health dept the last three years in public health, hopefully my exprience will help makeup for my relatively low gpa. I guess all that's left is to cross my fingers haha..

Good luck, I hope I was able to help!

chinofish,

Don't lose hope! My gpa is only around 3.1. I had a medical withdrawal for a semester, followed by a period of poor academic performance. It was only in the last year and a half of my undergrad that I was able to bounce back and start doing well in school again. My prereq grades were pretty good and I've taken a lot of science courses beyond the required pre-reqs thanks to my degree. I think what really helped me was my personal statement and my rec letter from my physiology professor. So yes, it is possible to gain acceptance as a "180" student. Hang in there, I think you will get it!!

Thanks so much for the vote of confidence rachel, your right too, I just received an email stating that I was accepted! Your absolutely right it was well worth it! To everyone who was accepted I look forward to meeting you all and to those who did not get accepted this time don't give up! As a second bachelors it took me in total about 4 years to get accepted. I've been rejected and told to stop chasing this dream but you can't ever give up. Best of luck all!

I called this morning and found out I was accepted! I couldn't be happier and more excited to meet all of you!! I live in Brooklyn so if anyone needs and help or advice in terms of apartments or anything else pertaining to the city, please let me know! Thanks for all your support through this emotional rollercoaster!!

Cheers!

Congratulations Ash!!! That's wonderful news!

Is there anybody out there that is still waiting to get a reply?? I e-mailed them today and they told me that they have reviewed my application but have not reached a decision. They told me I would hear from them in a few weeks. What does that mean?? I can't wait until this waiting game is over it is seriously driving me insane.

I am currently taking statistics..are there any of you that have received a conditional admission??

Congratulations for every one who were accepted! To verify I think emailing does work. I emailed them if I was accepted (applied by Oct 1 priority)...unfortunately I was told that a decision had not been made on my application yet. I can only assume that means I did not pass the first round and will be put in the pool of everyone who applied by Nov 1 OR i didn't get accepted and she was letting me down softly. I haven't lost hope and no one else should too. Try emailing the person I emailed, she is a associate director of admissions (Below is her info) so if you got accepted like Rach I think she will let you know. Augh! The worst part is that she told me that she will try and reach a decision in the next few weeks!! More waiting....unbearable....

Question: I could only have received a conditional acceptance as I am finishing my last pre-req now, I hope this is the reason that a decision has not yet been made and not that I didn't get in. Has anyone received an conditional acceptance yet?

Chinofish, you and I are on the same boat. I would be getting an conditional acceptance too if I get accepted. Are they saving us for the very last to fill the spots of those who decided not to go to NYU in the end? Let me know if you hear anything. December is just around the corner so I'm sure that they will be letting us know very soon. Best of luck!!! I will keep my fingers crossed and congrats to all of those who got in!!!

I'm still waiting to hear from them too. As of a week ago they haven't looked at my application. I turned it in pretty close to the deadline. I had to call because there was a misspelling with my email address. I should try contacting them but I am nervous to hear what they have to say. My undergrad grades SUCKED, my prereqs are 3.3-ish, I have great volunteer experience and my letters of recommendation we pretty good. So we shall see.

Did anyone apply to Stony Brook's program as well?

I applied while still finishing my last pre-req...but i recieved an acceptance letter on nov. 4th so don't worry they aren't putting you on hold!

this emotional roller coaster is going to leave me with cardiac problems.. hahaha

well I hope to hear from them soon! :)

Even though I must admit that the closer it gets the December the more I lose hope... niente pour moi pour le moment.. :(
