  1. To klinden1- I don't want to give you false hope but I got in spring 2011 and application was nowhere as competitive as yours. Just one thing: apply early. Do your app now and appt the first day possible for priority deadline
  2. Congrats to everyone that was accepted, I look forward to meeting you all in the fall. For those looking to find a place to live here is a resource: Slide show: Browse 86 apartments - Apartments / Home Design - Time Out New York They recently did their issue on apartment hunting in the 5 boroughs and you can read up about it on their website. By no means are these the cheapest apartments you can find but its a good start to gauge how much each neighborhood is charging and if you simply have no time to do the detective work you might just need to use this guide. If you don't have much money to spare your best bets are bushwick-sunset park brooklyn or Upper manhattan in the 100's. If you have the time, craigslist is the best source i have found to find apartments on the cheap.

  4. Thanks so much for the vote of confidence rachel, your right too, I just received an email stating that I was accepted! Your absolutely right it was well worth it! To everyone who was accepted I look forward to meeting you all and to those who did not get accepted this time don't give up! As a second bachelors it took me in total about 4 years to get accepted. I've been rejected and told to stop chasing this dream but you can't ever give up. Best of luck all!
  5. Whoops! I sincerely apologize for posting personal information, thank you for the reminder. Ash you should definitely email someone in the admissions department to find out more about your status, don't bother calling because I was given erroneous information when I called. As for my stats I fall into that group of applicants who I guess can be called 180 students. Poor past academic performance, followed by marginal improvement but the harm already done. That said my gpa is an unimpressive 3.0 but my pre req gpa is close to a 3.5- 3.6. I've been out of school and working with the NYC health dept the last three years in public health, hopefully my exprience will help makeup for my relatively low gpa. I guess all that's left is to cross my fingers haha.. Good luck, I hope I was able to help!
  6. Congratulations for every one who were accepted! To verify I think emailing does work. I emailed them if I was accepted (applied by Oct 1 priority)...unfortunately I was told that a decision had not been made on my application yet. I can only assume that means I did not pass the first round and will be put in the pool of everyone who applied by Nov 1 OR i didn't get accepted and she was letting me down softly. I haven't lost hope and no one else should too. Try emailing the person I emailed, she is a associate director of admissions (Below is her info) so if you got accepted like Rach I think she will let you know. Augh! The worst part is that she told me that she will try and reach a decision in the next few weeks!! More waiting....unbearable.... Question: I could only have received a conditional acceptance as I am finishing my last pre-req now, I hope this is the reason that a decision has not yet been made and not that I didn't get in. Has anyone received an conditional acceptance yet? ********** Associate Director of Admissions New York University 665 Broadway, 11th Floor New York, NY 10012 Phone: Fax:
  7. Thanks for the advice, I think that is exactly what I will do and walk in to speak with them. I just don't know who to request to speak with? Dean of admissions? Yeah the application is about the same- spotty undergrad (even one F) but cleaned up very well afterwards. I thought I had a solid application. I think the essay might have hurt. I had a solid one but kept revising and revising, it was just so hard to keep it at 250 words but everyhing else was good I thought. Oh well, not gonna give up! More volunteer work and reapply in June
  8. I think its more than 50, if memory serves correct it was more like 60 to 65 i believe
  9. Darn! I just received the list of alternatives for the 2010 entering class letter today. Looks like I'm on a wait list, i haven't given up hope but I know that it is very unlikely I will be called (I wasn't last year). What upsets me is that - and I hope this isn't the case - they disqualified me for errors on their part (which stinks since you cannot argue with the decision). I had a chemistry class older than 7 years which they still accepted but on my letter it stated: Outstanding Requirement: PROOF OF CITIZENSHIP I honestly do not understand why that would be put on there (i was born in brooklyn and lived here my whole life). It was not an outstanding requirement last year so why would it be this year? I really hope this isn't the reason they put me on a waiting list because they were waiting for me to send in a copy of my passport, because I was never notified of this. That isn't all. My letter read: Dear Mr. Kekkenth lastname, ....... My name is Kenneth, lol. On every piece of documentation following this letter the name is Kekkenth. Unbelievable. I can't afford to go to NYU or Colombia, so for those who were accepted, if you don't mind me asking, what was your application like? I have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 (i know relatively low but upper science courses). My pre req transcript was at like a 3.85 and I am currently working for the NYC dept of health and mental hygiene IN a clinic (as a public health educator) and have been for almost 3 years. I don't volunteer as much but i still try to on the weekends. I did submit the application late..like literally it got to downstate on the 14th of Jan according to delivery confirmation. (stupid on my part but i kept drafting and redrafting my personal statement) I don't know what I can do to improve my application, any suggestions? This june will be my THIRD time applying....
  10. You should really take that as a good sign that they are calling you for paperwork instead of disqualifying you.
  11. I Too am an applicant (or reapplicant) and still haven't heard from then. Around this time last year was when I received a large envelope from them tellig me I was on a waiting list, I haven't even gotten that this year so I'm a bit nervous too. I Also think that they might be awaiting confirmation or maybe the people who have received acceptance were early applicants?
  12. To answer the question about the missing micro lab. This happened to me LAST year, I had really been screwed over by the admin there. I am almost 100 percent sure they will not let you take a micro lab concurrently with the beginning of the program. If you can somehow manage to complete the class before June then you should try everything you can, call-email-drop in. If you are like me (I didnt bother with my prereq i sorta gave up, took the pre reqs summer of 09 and applied AGAIN for 2010) you will receive a giant yellow envelope with health forms congratulating you for being put on a alternate student list (wait list). I dont want to be a downer but you might need to take the pre req over the summer and apply again next year but you have nothing to lose so TRY!!!
  13. Hey i actually just got back from a Accelerated Nursing Program information session at Suny Brooklyn Downstate and i have some info to share. From what i understand there is no difference between a traditional 4 year BSN and a Accelerated Nursing Program. ANP is for people who didnt major in nursing in college (i.e. myself, Public Health) and a person with a 4 year BSN knew from the get go that nursing was what they wanted to do. After you pass your ANP classes though you do have to pass the NCLEX to get Registered as a Nurse and i believe officially you are a RN that can work. The difference between RN and Physician Assistant (keep in mind this is from what little i have gathered) is that a RN does pretty much the same thing as a PA (primary care, prescriptions) and need to have a doctors signature. I believe though that nurses deal more so with patients first hand. If you are a RN though you have the option to continue your education to go onto become a Nursing Practicioner, Nursing teacher, etc. Employment opportunities though i have noticed that both are needed but again that varies by state, i live in Brooklyn NY and graduated from Rutgers NJ and i have noticed that there have always been open positions for in the help wanted's. Pay varies as a RN due to how bad nurses are needed, where you work and responsibilities. I have heard hospital nurses make anywhere from 45k to 60k starting with progressive increases as experience goes up or education (an MS). I have heard that experienced and MS nursing specialties can make an average of about 110k. RN's that work part time make about $60-75/ hour and work the hours they want and are needed, so they make their own schedule. I have been told all this from a doctor and a nurse from a hospital i volunteered at in Brooklyn. Finally here are the details of a ANP program (which are not universal but shouldn't vary much i am taking the creds from SUNY DOWNSTATE) Pre-reqs: A baccalaureate degree from accredited college, min 3.0 GPA, A C or better in AP 1 and 2 (w/labs), Chem (with lab), Microbiology (w/lab), English Composition, English Elective, Statistics, 2 classes of Psychology and 2 of Sociology/Anthropology and 12 credits in Humanities/Social Sciences. Out of the approx. 350 applicants for the 2006 class, 65 were accepted. Out of the 62 that were accepted in 2005 (which ends summer 2006) there are still approx. 57 students left. Hope that helps good luck to you all.
  14. Hi newb here and i am sorry if this has already been posted but i recently became dedicated to becoming a Nursing Practioner. I have been interested in Suny Brooklyn Downtown's nursing program and i know that the steps are LPN to RN to NP. Well i have most of the pre-reqs to apply for the accelerated nursing program but my question is after the 15 month program am i considered an RN or just an LPN? I looked through both curriculums and they are very similar but i just don't know so if anyone can clarify this would be really helpful, thanks a bunch!
