NYU ABSN Fall 2015

Published

Anyone planning to apply to NYU ABSN program for fall 2015. Since I'm in CA, there's no way I could attend the information session. What important things were mentioned at the information session?

I applied also for fall 2015 the waiting is going to drive me crazy!!

does anyone know how to check the status of recommendation letters on the online application for nyu ?

thanks @unicor.n for the recommendation response

what are some things to stray away from in the personal statement?

I don't think recommendation letters show up on Albert since they are optional. You can try to call admissions and see if they received them!

Does anyone know if they are less likely to accept people straight out of college? I have heard that a lot of applicants have a few years of experience outside of college and I am going to graduate this May so I was wondering if anyone knew if that would effect my admissions.

Specializes in Neuro ICU.

@Alypol

I called Admissions and they were able to confirm receipt of my LORs. The person I spoke with also said LORs can be emailed.

Regarding what to stray away from in your personal statement, I'm not sure! I did my best to express my truth as to why nursing and why NYU. As long as you're heartfelt and honest, you can't go wrong IMHO.

I don't see a thread for NYUCN fall transfers so I'm gonna post here.

Can anyone comment on my chances of admission? I'm male, currently 2 years in a CC taking nursing prereqs with 36 credits and 3.77 uw 4.0 GPA. I'm finishing up NYU's nursing pre-reqs (only stat and nutrition).

My extracurriculars are hospital volunteer work and a background as an nursing assistant, not more than a year though. I hit a rough patch during my H.S career, got a GED. I spent my time in CC making a turn-around and was pretty honest about that in my education interruption essay. Also have a few certifications, don't know if it will help me though. I'd like to say my grades are good but I'm kinda nervous given my crappy education background prior to CC.

This thread is for individuals who are applying to the accelerated program for nursing at NYU. Therefore, we already have undergrad degrees. From what you have written, you have not yet obtained your undergrad degree. Therefore, your application process to NYU is different, correct? I am not completely sure about that. I believe your process has a bit more components/factors to the application.

I am not sure about you transferring to from a community college to NYU. I don't know how they will look at your application coming from there. As for your GED, forget about that! That's in the past, you're not dragging that with you. It's your college GPA that matters now. I think you have a great GPA and have created a good path to continue. You can try to apply to NYU and see what happens, if you do not get accepted, I would apply again if you feel the need and also to other schools. YOu need to transfer from the CC and get a Bachelor's. I hope I helped a little. Best of luck to you. Keep persevering.

yes! If you don't have a baccalaureate degree, I would look into the traditional BSN program because the accelerated is only for people with a degree. Some of us have completed pre-reqs or are a few away from completion and have chosen the accelerated track and some of us have more pending and have chosen the non-accelerated 2nd degree. Based off your stats, I think you ha e a very high chance and like mentioned before, FORGET about your high school lol they don't care about that. They don't even ask you for a high school transcript (at least for the 2nd degree track they don't). All they care is if you've graduated/obtained a GED and then move on to your college coursework. Best of luck to you :)

@quietlife, check this out. https://nursing.nyu.edu/program/transfer

if you do not have a bachelor's degree, you will be applying as a transfer. email the admissions counselor. have you applied to any state schools which offer in state tuition? NYU is expensive school!

Thank you guys so much for the feedback! It really means a lot to me. I already submitted my common app as a transfer student in the fall. My GED and College transcripts are on their way to NYU right now, hopefully USPS will deliver it by tomorrow! I'm also waiting on my last professor recommendation. He told me he will get it to me by next Wednesday so hopefully I'll turn in everything on time before it hits 3/1 so I get priority decision. I decided to give it a shot because a friend of mine in CC got into the ASBN spring program of 15 with a 3.5 GPA. She had 2 years of experience as a CNA though. Hopefully that will help you guys out.

anyone having problems getting the online application? is the site down?
