NYU ABSN Fall 2015

Published

Anyone planning to apply to NYU ABSN program for fall 2015. Since I'm in CA, there's no way I could attend the information session. What important things were mentioned at the information session?

Where will you be commuting from?

Hi fellow members,

I applied for the NYU's ABSN in the middle of March and still haven't heard from the admission committee yet. Good to see this active thread.

So... anyone care to share what made you change your career path (Since we all had a first Bachelor degree)? What attract(s) you to the career of Nursing...

Thank you all... Wish you all good luck...

I'm still waiting to hear. I'm guessing it's going to be a no since I've been holding on so long, but I suppose there's still a smidgen of hope.

But if I get in, I've been thinking about the cost like that too. I think it's an astronomical price and I'm coming from California so it will be a huge financial shock. Yes, CA is expensive but not NYC expensive. I do intend to stay and work in NY for a while if I get in. So yes, it will be a shock. But I do think it will be justified for me, NYU has a strong appeal to me for many reasons. I have ways of paying for it, I'll be super tight on spending, but I think NYU is worth it. For some, paying for the NYU degree isn't worth it, for some it is with it!

I'm starting to search for debt forgiveness programs to have some sort of plan laid out in the future, even if it isn't set in stone, it's good to have an idea of options. It sounds like NYC nurses make more than CA nurses unless I get a job in SF, which is probably hard to do as a recent NY grad...but we'll see where the future takes me.

That's something I love about nursing, so many possibilities.

alypol, I am still waiting with you and everyone else.

I am also waiting guys and I applied since January. I saw on NYU's website that many transfer students are still waiting and will receive a response by May 15th. However, they also said that they might hold off on response for some transfer students until the end of May for until their end semester grades are in and they should have their transcript ready. They also said that we should not call or add new information to our file at this time because they already have what they need, but if not, they will contact us via email for any additional information. I am just praying and hoping for the best for myself and everyone.

well i did hear that going to nyu won't really promise you a job and theres a lot of other programs that are 18 months and less expensive. i think people are just applying anywhere and not really thinking about everything clearly.

where did you hear that about transfer students? that sounds correct though.

this is the big week guys! hopefully a good amount of you that has been waiting receive some type of results this week :)

it also has to deal with prerequisites. the less expensive school in NYC, (the only one that i can think of is downstate) has more pre-req requirements. other schools also have interviews, drug testing, standardized testing (TEAS) etc. that can be a deterrent for some people, and more of a reason to apply to NYU, which has none of that. other schools with ABSN in NYC, such as pace and adelphi, are just as pricey as NYU.

i really do hope this is a big week for replies from NYU. it's becoming difficult to plan life around an unknown admissions decision.

I agree - I've applied for other schools in the meantime, so if I get a rejection I'm not left stranded.

But I'm trying to hold off on applying to any more until I know SOMETHING. Applying to a ton of schools is pricey for no guarantees.

I'd be happy with knowing something, even if they're just like, "well....maybe..." Just some sort of acknowledgement.

i agree. out of all schools NYU has the "easiest" pre-recs and less complicated than other schools in new york.

i'm hoping so too. it looks like last a week a lot of students got letters back so im assuming it'll be huge again this week.

Do they send acceptance emails on Mondays? Or anyone figured out a particular trend...

I have to stop checking my email every now and then... lol

I never heard of that I usually see most people say they got in T/TH.

not saying they don't on other days but mainly those days.

I've turned down my spot for NYU. It was my top choice along with another school, but I've chosen to attend nursing school in CA because I wish to work in Socal after nursing school, and attending NYU would not be beneficial in that case. I do believe that it is the Tuesday/Thursday pattern that they send out acceptances, and it was on a Tuesday that I received mine.

If you can afford going to NYU, it definitely is worth it, but if your loans are about 100,000+ total, you'll probably be paying back about 500-1000 in loans per month, depending on whether it's a private loan or not. That's A LOT to pay back considering living costs, saving, etc. when you start working. That's more than half of what medical students owe, and MDs make more money.

good luck everyone! I hope everyone hears good news~~
