NYU ABSN Fall 2015

Published

Anyone planning to apply to NYU ABSN program for fall 2015. Since I'm in CA, there's no way I could attend the information session. What important things were mentioned at the information session?

Well better for us the more ppl that deny their acceptance leaves more room for us..lol

Well I guess Tuesday and Thursday are gone again so we'll just have to wait and see whats what next week guys. I do hope that some positive news will come our way after such long wait.

Hey guys, I was a little iffy applying to an ABSN program, until the deadline got closer and I just decided to send my application out. I am an undergrad at Fairleigh Dickinson University. Albert has everything checked off for me but I still haven't heard anything yet. I'm so scared and I have bad anxiety. Anyone heard if they were accepted or not?

When will you be done with your undergraduate degree? The second degree Accelerated BSN program at NYU is for people who have already completed a Bachelor's degree in another field. If you are still working on your first degree, then you will have applied as a transfer student.

I know that much. I graduate this month on the 19th.

Ok, great. So the answer to your question is yes - quite a few people have already heard back about whether they were accepted or not. According to the admissions office, they will continue to release decisions throughout May. Its safe to assume that if you don't hear back by the end of this month and don't get outright rejected, you are on a waiting list. Does this help?

Thank you, I am also going to apply to RU. I have a 3.2 right now without this (my last semester) included. Hopefully I get into something.

I have a question for the people applying. The cost just for tuition is >$60,000. If you add in the very expensive rent, plus all other costs, the program cost could hit $100,000 or more. How is everybody justifying this cost?

I am wondering the same thing! The cost is ridiculous if I may add.

The cost is justifiable for many reasons. Firstly, NYU is a private school. Secondly, you're paying to get an ABSN in 18 months, which is significantly less than the time and cost of the traditional BSN (4 years of undergrad). NYU has a stellar reputation, and graduates are likely to obtain a job in nursing shortly after graduation due to the prestige of the program. The nursing salary for a new nurse is also impressive, which justifies the cost associated with becoming an educated nurse. Whether you are paying with loans or out of pocket, you will be reaping the benefits of being a registered nurse, and essentially paying off loans and whatnot pretty quickly after your time at NYU is over. If you're not an NYC resident, the program and living costs will fluctuate immensely, but maybe one should've considered that beforehand and applied for programs in their own state/city, then.

Well said and thank you for the gentle nudge í ½í¸€í ½í¸€

Totally agreed. I don't understand how anyone from out of state could justify this cost unless their plan is to relocate permanently to NYC or have a trust fund lol. Personally, I have connections at hospitals all over Manhattan and NJ so the networking opportunities available with NYU make every penny worth it so I can get my foot in the door at a hospital in the city which is my ultimate goal and dream. Being able to commute brings the cost down a bit for me. The cost of living in NYC is astronomical even the taxes are higher just to go shopping.

I had to first pay off my undergrad loans in order to be able to take out enough money to afford this program since there's a cap on how much money you can take out in loans. Never knew that before applying! A man posted he didn't know about the cap and basically got kicked out of the program because he couldn't take out anymore loans :/

Still haven't heard yet though. Fingers crossed for us all waiting!!

Yes, of course. I believe the program is absolutely worth the cost. We're all taking out loans, and even applied, because this is what we want and are 100% sure about our future in nursing. The costs of an ABSN education at NYU will be covered by our success as nurses.

I've been an NYC resident my entire life- out of state fees for school and the costs of living are astronomical. As you said, Erika, unless you have a trust fund or parent working at NYU, this education won't be cheap for any of us. But we're at a stage in our lives where we have all been through undergrad and have had life experiences that should have contributed to a well thought out decision to apply for a program that is realistic for our financial situation.

I'm still waiting on a reply for NYU, but I wish everyone who has been accepted or is still waiting, the best of luck. Who else is waiting on a decision?
