NYU ABSN Fall 2013 Entry

U.S.A. New York

Published

Hello everyone! I have submitted my application and my transcripts to NYU for the ABSN program beginning in fall 2013! I am very excited but surprised that we will be hearing so late about an admission decision. Is anyone else applying?

Who are you guys calling at NYU? I just called the Nursing School's admissions to check in about my application because I need to figure out if I need to take summer classes and the girl was basically like "We have no idea it'll be by the end of May." So it was not very helpful and I'm just wondering if there is someone better to talk to about my application! Any ideas would be helpful. I REALLY need to know soon or I might lose some of my tuition.[/quote']

I called their admissions office, asked to speak with a counselor. I got the same answer as you did. I was told that since I applied on April 1st that it took 6-8weeks, I told her that allotted time has past it's been atleast 6 weeks and we're on the 8th week now.

I just called and was transferred several times. This is what I was told: They had over 1000 applicants, they are looking to admit 160 students. Mainly they're looking for academic caliber, they are looking for the best grades. If you have courses in progress, they just look at whatever is on file. I asked what kind of academic caliber are they looking for, so if a person has a 3.4 then they would admit that student. I'm assuming he's talking about prerequisite gpa. So I'm giving up, because my GPA isn't to their standards even though there's a possibility that my prereq gpa will be brought up bc I'm repeating a course. Good luck to the rest of you.

So bad news. I called at 9 AM this morning and asked the general "you have everything you need" questions. I then pushed the counselor as to whether all of us would hear by end of May. She basically said that they are trying but that there was a good chance that some would slip into early June. I have been so bummed by this that it has taken me this long to post this news. Not hearing until June affects the summer courses I will take since I was applying to finish my prerequs at NYU in the Fall and if I am not into the program I will need to take my prerequs elsewhere since I need labs for other schools I may apply to for Fall 2014. Plus, I am retaking Nutrition this summer to only satisfy NYU since it is 10+ years old and no other schools I am looking at have the "less than 10 years old" requirement. So I may retake a course that I got an A in previously for nothing. So so depressed. And yes, I finished college a long time ago which makes me old. And I have two kids. And two cranky cats. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let's all hear good news tomorrow.

I'm in the same boat. I went to a university that did not give out A's so my prereq GPA are generally B's and 2 A's from classes I took at cc. I'm repeating AP2 because I got a C in it. I'm hoping to get an A in the class to boost my gpa. I'm about to turn in my acceptance notice into the ADN program I was admitted to. :(

I didn't even apply to any ADN programs because I was convinced I'd get into an accelerated BSN program. I'm still waiting to find out about my grades. I think I got Cs in Micro and A&P2 which technically is enough for NYU but only if they find out about it after they accept me! And I think I got a B in Stats. I got a B+ in A&P1, A in math and B in Chem, so a 3.5 for my first pre-req transcript, but this last term killed me. Signed up to take Nutrition, Psych and A&P2 again for the summer, just to boost my GPA for the next round of applications I do to Pace and NYU Spring if I don't get into NYU this fall. I've already given up on Concordia because 1) I was waitlisted and 2) they require Bs and above and I don't know if they would be lenient... Sigh. So aggravating this applying to school!

Samist - where are you located? If you are in NY area and hoping to stay in NY area I might think twice about an Associates program. Not sure what you want to do, but I know most (if not all) NYC hospitals are not hiring Associates degrees anymore. I volunteer at a hospital where the Unit Clerk on the Mother/Baby floor recently passed the boards but stil can't get hired (and the hospital is actually hiring - but only BSNs). She has worked there for 10 years.

If I get an A in my AP2 course, it will boost me to a 3.448. I wish they could see that before they reject me! I had great LORs, idk about my personal statement, I'm not good at writing about myself.

Actually I'm in MD, and Johns Hopkins and affiliated JH hospitals still hire ADNs. I have my bachelors already so I'm thinking if I don't get into NYU I'll apply to their masters program.

I mean the ADN was not my first choice, I'd rather get the BSN and get it done faster but if it's the only option I have then ill take it.

Samist - not a bad plan. I am actually taking Chem at NYU with a woman who got her ADN elsewhere, worked as an RN for a few years, and is taking a few "fill in the gap" classes before she starts the Masters program at NYU next year.

Also, at some point the baby boomers who are not retiring are going to retire - and there will again be a nursing shortage in cities and jobs for ADN degrees.

BrooklynJulie,

I feel your pain. I applied from California on February 21st and still no word. I got accepted to Barnes College Nursing school in St Louis Missouri, but that is for Fall 2014. Im so bummed I will have to wait a year if NYU doesn't respond to me. I dont understand what takes so long for them. They should have let all of us know by now, its almost June!. Oh well live to fight another day. Best of luck to you.

Michael

I mean for certain areas an ADN will suffice. My standards are different, I think the more classes and the more education you have the better it is, even if it seems irrelevant at the time. I wouldn't need any classes by the time I apply for the masters because my BA covered everything. I'm praying I get into NYU, but it's pointless now if they aren't going to be looking at my final grades.

Hi everyone!! I applied in March and found out yesterday that I got in. So hang in there!!!! Also, I am wondering how everyone is managing to afford NYU since it is so pricey. I will be moving from SF so I am hoping to find a roommate!!! I would love any advice! Thanks
