NYU ABSN Fall 2013 Entry

U.S.A. New York

Published

Hello everyone! I have submitted my application and my transcripts to NYU for the ABSN program beginning in fall 2013! I am very excited but surprised that we will be hearing so late about an admission decision. Is anyone else applying?

brooklynjulie,

where did you do your prior prereqs and how many more do you have? also do you know the grades of those who were accepted in your chem class?

im getting really anxious as NYU was the only program i applied to! without any hospital experience, does this make me less competitive as a candidate?

Whatsmyname -

The only prerequ I have done (Stats) was completed at SF State. I am taking Chem at NYU currently as a non-matriculated student. I took Chem because it is the only class of their science requirements to have a lab and I know labs are required by most other Universities I would apply to if I don't get into NYU this application process. If I don't get in I will be super disappointed as NYU is my #1 choice but I know that I can apply again and would apply to other schools once my prerequs are done. Since NYU doesn't offer labs with Micro or A&P I would probably take them at St. Francis College in BK Heights. A woman I volunteer with has completed most of her sciences there and she said good things. I am looking at SUNY Online to take Developmental Pysch and Nutrition over the summer. Through volunteering I have met a lot of pre-nursing and nursing students and they have been a wealth of information:)

As for the people in my Chem class, I get the sense that they came in with some pretty strong grades and/or from good schools OR had a strong resume. Unfortunately only NYU admissions can tell us if we personally are strong candidates!

thanks for the response, brooklynjulie.

when you went to the open house, did they perhaps tell you why it is more difficult to get accepted if you are applying to do prereqs at nyu?

Whatsmyname - They didn't say why it was more competitive. My guess is that people who have finished their prerequs already demonstrate they can handle science courses. Without these courses already completed admissions would have to look exclusively at your undergrad degree grades. I had a good GPA but was a communications major. Big difference in my mind between taking a PR class and taking A&P.

this makes me so nervous! i dont have any hospital experience, only my prior bachelors degree grades (magna cum laude) as a reference + my essays and two prereqs completed during my freshman year of college.

I just want to find out already !!!!

Hi whatsmyname

Do not worry about hospital experience. I was accepted NYU ABSN this spring and now I am completing pre-reqs at NYU before I start clinical sequence from fall. I don't have any hospital experience or any volunteer experience.

Hi

yam582,

Just wondering approximately how many people in the ABSN class? Are you going to join the class of 2013 Fall?

I will need to finish my pre-req too before starting the program. I think Developmental Psychology is the only one that I am missing. I have taken child development in college..bummer..

How is this DP class? Have you taken it yet?

I am still very worried because even I have had 8 months of hospital volunteer experience (Nursing Unit) before, and still doing some nowadays (about another 8 months) @Outpatient Infusion Center/ER/Recovery room in my local hospital, I do not have very stunning GPA...Pretty average for both the overall and pre-reqs, not so impressive. I don't know if this would make me less competitive...I have a personal statement which I think is OK, and also do get 2 references, one from my Biology Advisor who knows me well, and the other from the RN Coordinator that I am volunteering with now. I am still very antsy about this whole process...It makes me scared because I got rejected by another accelerated nursing program in NY this morning after 4 months of deadly waiting..sigh...Super disappointed. Hope this means something good is going to happen!

NYU is my last hope and I really really hope that it can offer me admission for fall 2013...I really don't know if my credentials are qualified? I know there are a lot of applicants who have many years of clinical experiences and even have Master Degree and outstanding GPA..Knowing these just makes me super sad about myself for not having any of these to compete with... awww

Really hope NYU will not turn me down, I really want to get it started already no matter how hard the program will be!!Crossing my fingers!! > _

Hi whatsmyname,

I am in the same boat as you. I applied as 2nd degree non-accerlerated candidate since I need to finish Developmental Psychology prior to enrolling into the ABSN program in Spring 2014. I didn't apply to so many schools just because first I do not have all the pre-reqs done. Second, different schools have different pre-reqs requirements and most of them are asking you to complete all of the pre-reqs by the time of enrollment, and it is simply just hard to find a right place to take all these.. I don't think it is worth it to waste my time and take those classes when you know that there will still be a high chance of getting rejected by those schools..NYU is not cheap at all compared to other school, but I have heard that it has a fairly generous acceptance rate, and most importantly, offers you the chance to complete the pre-reqs at it's own school before enrolling into the right program. It is not easy obviously, but at least it gives you the chance, that is why I am sticking with it. I will be soo grateful if I can get in there..!!

I have the same concerns as you. But I think we are still competing with the Fall 2013 candidates? It is kinda scary though...

I am hoping the best for all of us!! ^ ^

Just received my admissions notice! You guys I'm so psyched! I can't wait to meet you all

Torzorz- Congrats!!! Hopefully good news for all of us!

Thanks kmp23! I'm anxiously updating this thread every few mins, good luck!
