Nybon Nursing School Under Investigation

I finished my LPN-RN program from Carleen Health Institute. I took the NCLEX under New York state board and passed the exam. I'd been waiting on the license a couple of weeks and decided to call NYbon, was told the school is under review - hence they would not be issuing any licenses till the review is done. They also wouldn't give a time frame. Does anyone have any idea how long these reviews usually take or what could be done in situations like this?

Yes now they want everybody to go back to school and take the NCLEX again. They canceling NCLEX scores you had before

Yes it's true for people that went to the schools on the list NYBON has up but there hasn't been any official announcements for those who passed NCLEX but went to Florida approved schools not on any federal list. I know @starr2022indicated going forward that NYBON would no longer accept a school that is not accredited but they did not make any official announcement for us that have been waiting before any emergency decisions started going into effect.  I really hope that they do not take the same approach that they did with current schools on Fed list.

Exactly they just have an announcement stating on April 18 2023

I know that many seem angry at the NY Board of Nursing for just not accepting the Florida schools' education for sitting for the NCLEX for a NY nursing license - or for revoking the licenses they have.

These FL students are requesting a nursing license from the NY BON. It is never guaranteed that one will be issued a license -  and if they feel uncomfortable with a nurse's background - they have the right to reject it. (And I am absolutely certain that with their limited resources the NY BON would rather be doing other, necessary work than dealing with the FL schools debacle.)

I saw a mention here that the NY Board "should take the student's hard work into account" and "let them through". That's not it works. The NY BON sets the rules for nursing practice in NY -  just as FL does in Florida. Their goal is public protection - period. But, in all fairness, the NY BON does not owe these FL graduates a license. Their anger is misplaced. It should be squarely directed at the FL Board of Nursing and the owners and administrators of these schools. Not the NY BON.

What you are saying is 100 percent true. Our issue with NY BON is communication. Let us know where we stand so we know how to proceed going forward. If you made the decision not to let us through then make it official. It's just time being wasted at this point if they really came to that conclusion.  I just hope for the best. Let's just assume that they are still doing a thorough investigation and will allow those that passed from non fraudulent schools to go through. Just some wishful thinking.

I am waiting for some action on my application from NY BON too. They simply take a very long time (it seems). I graduated from a CA school which is still operating with a great NCLEX pass rate. But, it has taken them six weeks to even acknowledge my application. I know that they are responsible for a huge number of licenses and that their staff is down to a skeleton-crew at this point. Very little seems automated and I know that they are trying to update their systems to gain some efficiencies..but it is taking years apparently.

I'm glad I don't work there - an.d really feel for you guys. "Communication" seems to be something the NY BON really struggles with...

Sigh.

I agree with what u are saying. You cannot expect another board of nursing to accept what the other excepted.  And the note of taking away license.  They did not take away active license from those that went to those schools in the scandal. They took away who came forward. Those nurses are still actively working in NY with no action taken. NYBON is obviously basis, do the same for all. They basically sending message saying is OK to fraud the system and if u have license with them your fine but the rest its a no. Make it make sense

I think that this is how they should do things for sure going forward but what about those who went to programs not on federal fraud list and passed the boards. Alot of schools were approved not accredited but they should let us through. We passed before any emergency action was put in. We shouldn't fall into this new category. We did the course work and clinicals that were required of us and it wasn't easy work. We had to study hard. If it wasn't for this debacle, we would of had our licenses a long time ago. It's the people that decided to sell transcripts and diplomas without school work or clinicals that are the real culprits. They have the list of everyone already. The feds did the leg work. We are not a part of that. How many other nurses passed from said programs working already from before. Are they going to revoke everyone else? I don't think so. NYBON needs to take that into consideration and let us through. We just want to further our careers. God willing they let us through, right back to school for me for MSN from an accredited program.

Just  to let you know dosent matter if you go to a accredited school for BSN or MSN , THE boards look at where you first went for the foundation of your nursing  that allowed you to sit for the boards. With that you will always be denied if its pertaining to one of those schools or a school not accredited that they feel dosent comply with there standards.  Lastly, most of those schools in Florida that are approved have no accreditation this is why people have to pay out of pocket. It is not backed by Fasa ( which is federal government for aid). Always look for a school that has some form of federal accredition. If it doesn't have any aid it isn't accredited

I believe this is still an ongoing process. They probably just haven't made any final decisions on what to do with the nurses that are already licensed and practicing.

You probably are right, but if they were so concerned with those nurse they would at least suspended there license by now. I believe there holding others for what those nurses with license did. Which to me isn't right at all.

I'm thinking they haven't suspended them yet because NY has their hands filled with all this mess going on. If they suspend all these nurses I believe they have the right to a fair hearing within 30 days.

Other states have been giving hearings and asking for evidence and ruling to revoke due to no evidence.  There are so many that never went to school its a shame. Ny need to do the same with providing hearings so they can get down to the bottom of it. But they are very slow with anything they do,
