Hey guys,
I started this thread in hopes of connecting with people who applied for the Traditional Nursing program at NVCC. I have been corresponding with them via e-mail and am anxiously awaiting an acceptance letter. Hope everyone else submitted their applications without issue! Maybe we can cheer each other on :)
Hope to hear form you all with questions, concerns and comments!

Honestly, I hate to sound like one of "those" students, but I just don't think it's appropriate to schedule students for mandatory meetings during the school break. PLUS I knew way ahead there were orientations and I asked and asked to try to avoid this. I couldn't even get a "we don't schedule those until midsummer." I thought it was reasonable to assume the school break was safe. Our trip is to north eastern New England so there's no way it can be done with the reduced time.
That is so frustrating, I'm sorry. I also assumed that 1 week between summer/fall semesters we would be free if we completed everything else ahead of time. The 11th and 14th are listed, but maybe at the nursing orientation they will have alternate dates? ...that's probably wishful thinking if the textbook publisher is coming to the MEC. Too bad they didn't schedule all of these orientations the same week, or over a few days so we could get the requirements out of the way and continue on with our summer. I also saw something about the handbook we won't be able to submit until the 15th.

You are def. NOT one of those students. I am with you there as well. It's ridiculous for them to schedule all this while on summer break. I mean with all these checklist items, campus orientations, and running around to get things done prior to the program they should at least schedule this either right when everyone gets accepted so we can get most of this crap done and enjoy our summer. Sorry to hear about your trip Summer break is honestly supposed to be "our time". But who knows maybe Nurse2be35 will be right, what if they have alternate dates that day...lets hope so
Hi guys, I am starting the program this fall as well. I registered for the CPR course at Heartstarts July 11. It is only 4 hours long and $72 versus the 8 hours/$120 at MEC. It is AHA as well.
I registered too. but for "health care provider" costs $87. so make sure u register the right course because the regular CPR is $72. I hope it helps
I applied for the LPN to RN track and looking at the Nursing Skills Pack that we have to purchase I am a bit confused on which one to get. They have a LPN pack and a RN pack. I am leaning more to the RN pack but can anyone confirm this?
Is the LPN pack for the Traditional track and the RN pack for the LPN transition to RN track?

I believe you would get the LPN one. I'm not positive however I believe since you're first doing LPN then moving on to RN they want you to get the LPN one. Maybe call the nursing department at MEC prior to making the purchase to find out first.
Quick question! I was looking at the Important Deadline Dates @ A-Glance document that was recently sent to us and I was looking at the 7/18 due date and saw it said "order background check, drug screening, and immunization tracker..." is the immunization tracker something separate? Or is it just that certified background thing we payed like $120 for that has the place to upload the immunizations as well as other documents? Just to make sure.

It's in the certified profile package we order :)
Which just reminded me, I should do a run through of anything to make sure I'm on track for stuff!

Thank you for bringing this up. I didn't see the "at a glance" dates when I printed the to-do list. I feel the same way! I planned on going to the beach the 11-16... I guess that's not an option anymore :-( Maybe I'll try to go for a long weekend and leave right after the book orientation on the 14th. Our classes start on the 20th I'm pretty sure. Either way, we all NEED and DESERVE the relaxation before we hit the ground running the week after. They should have added that to the to-do list.
