Nutrition....Spring 2008

Published

Hey everyone! I'm starting this class this semester online and I am very nervous...this will be my first online class! Wanted to make a thread where all of us braving this class this semester can help eachother out, post questions etc. Good luck to you all!

Can we get this sticky?

Specializes in Critical Care.

I wish I was having a good time in Nutrition like all of you! I really don't like this class. The teacher overloads us with work and she's not a very nice person underneath. I can't wait for this class to be over. Also, most of this info will never apply to nursing... I mean what does knowing what the most popular supplement in Seattle is have to do with nursing? Absolutely nothing... oh and its 94 to get an A. She made us memorize all this supplement info (over 40 supplements and everything about them), but nurses aren't even permitted to discuss such things with patients anyways. Another annoying nursing pre-req eliminate for me, but I'm glad you all are having a better experience! :)

I took nutrition w/diet therapy on the internet last summer. I loved that class!

I'm taking nutrition online this semester also. So far, it's pretty easy. :) I'll be taking psych & developmental psych starting in March as well. Good luck!!!

I'll be taking Nutrition starting April. Hopefully, I'll have a good experience like most of you have!

Is it just me, or is this class getting really boring???

Thank goodness! I got an A in Nutrition! It was pretty tough (way too tough given thats its only Nutrition) and I didn't like the class... but its all over and I was victorious and got the A! Good luck to everyone! :) :D

I am really enjoying ours (ccconline). I have an A, its interesting and the workload is pretty light compared to my other classes. Good combination all the way around!

YAY!!! i passed nutrition with an A-!! i guess i can still kind of help you all out.

Specializes in NICU.

I ended up with an A in Nutrition A and an A- in Nutrition B...compared to the C in N.A. and D in N.B.

Amazing what a difference non-crazy professor can make.

I've found that looking into teachers helps. Don't be afraid to email teachers about books and other required materials for price. My A&P teacher writes her own notebooks for $150. In this regard, I also find out ahead of time so I can order online instead of getting ripped off by the school bookstore. Also, check word of mouth and sites like ratemyprofessor.com to get others' opinions on potential professors.

On a side note, I am a big fan of community college: Less pretentious teachers (less work), less cost, same course requirement. Especially for nursing, since (unless you immediately want an administrative position, which wouldn't happen anyway) RN and BSN will get you the same jobs for the same pay, minus two years of extra work and cost.

Better to do your research than to end up with something unexpected!

I'm taking Nutrition this semester, and oddly enough, it is my most difficult class. I have about an A average in both Microbiology and Anatomy, but can't seem to get past a low C on Nutrition quizzes. The class has over 50 students, and the professor just stands up at the front of the class with her microphone and reads Powerpoint slides. She's an older British woman who claims to not know what a study guide is. Her quizzes are very tricky and just about everyone walks out of her class angry. She doesn't really tell us what to study, so it's hard to gauge what to focus on.

Our text is Foundations and Clinical Applications of Nutrition, 4th ed., Mosby Press, and there is no companion site. Any suggestions on the best way to study for this class? I had no idea it would be this much of a challenge!

Hi, I am trying to finish up my pre-reqs while still working full time. Do you guys have any recommendations for good online courses in nutrition, developmental psych or physiology?

Thanks!
