  1. I am attending Part I orientation next month. I have a BA in English from USC....will I have to do the pre-health certificate? I have all my sciences done (I completed them within the past 2 years at USC...they should transfer to MTC, correct?), just wasn't sure about that certificate. Also, does anyone know the average time you have to wait from orientation to your actual start date? Also, when does one apply for merit acceptance? Thanks! :)
  2. @lelafin: I'll be at the orientation in two weeks, too! I have no idea what to expect but am so excited! :)
  3. I just completed my sciences in the past year, so that's a relief! I will check out that website. Is orientation just one long info session, or is it more informal? Also, what does "start date" mean? Is that when you start clinicals, or when you start non-clinical courses?
  4. Hi everyone! I just received a letter from MTC stating that I have qualified for admission to the ADN program! I attend orientation next week. I have a couple of questions though. I already have a BA from USC. I am now at USC-Beaufort trying to get into their BSN program (already turned down once). All of my sciences were done at USCB. All I'm missing from the Pre-Nursing Certificate is Medical Terminology and NUR 115 (Basic Concepts in Nursing). Does anyone by chance know if my science courses will transfer to MTC? I got A's and B's in all of them, so I really, really don't want to have to retake them. Also, how long does it typically take from orientation to start date? I have wanted to move back to Columbia ever since I left lol so I'm pretty excited about MTC. :)
  5. Does anyone know the average TEAS score for the ADN program? I took the exam today and my adjusted total score was 86.5. I've gotten A's and B's in all of my pre-req's, so I'm realllllly hoping that I have a shot for Fall 2010!
  6. I am finishing up my pre-req's for the BSN program at the university. I applied to the program last fall, but my GPA wasn't good enough. I've gotten all A's and B's in my pre-req's, and am actually taking a pathology course with the nursing students this semester (and doing well in that so far). I already have a BA in English, but have wanted to pursue a nursing degree for quite sometime. A friend of mine got into the ADN program at the tech school here, and she highly recommended it. I reviewed the admissions requirements, and it seems as though I may have a much better chance of being accepted than I do at the BSN. My problem is, I attended the tech school several years ago for paralegal certification, and slacked off terribly; so much so that I landed on academic probation. Is it possible to still be accepted if I do really well on the TEAS, combined with my high grades in the pre-req's? The combined course GPA that they want for pre-req's is at least a 2.75, and when I did the GPA for those courses, it came out to about a 3.2.
  7. Hey everyone, I am trying to get some medical experience before I reapply to nursing school next fall. I am enrolled in a CNA course that starts in January, but I'm a little nervous about the whole cleaning people's backsides and working (at least doing clinicals) in a nursing home. It's really the nursing home thing that turns me off from it. Plus, after reading the textbook and brochures, it doesn't sound very challenging. The tech school here also offers EMT and Phlebotomy certification courses. Which would be a better route to go to prepare for being an RN? I want to work in oncology one day, if that helps. Thank you! :)
  8. I just found out from the department secretary that the admissions committee is meeting this afternoon to go over applications, and we probably won't find out until we meet with our advisor next week. AGGGHHH!!!
  9. Advisement for the spring.
  10. We should be getting our decision letters any day now, and there a TON of rumors going around about admissions and advising and number of applicants. Driving me CRAZY!!!!!
  11. The nursing applicants at my school are really upset because some of them are apparently being given the run around by their nursing advisors about when they can be advised for the spring. A lot of the focus is on my advisor, but I emailed her this morning and got an appoint for Tuesday. Some of my classmates found this very upsetting, and it's making me wonder if this could be an indicator that I got accepted. I get along great with my advisor, and she has been very encouraging every step of the way. Rumor has it that she isn't like that with everyone; some students hate her already. I know not to count my chickens yet, but I'm just curious what y'all might think...
  12. I'm taking Nutrition this semester, and oddly enough, it is my most difficult class. I have about an A average in both Microbiology and Anatomy, but can't seem to get past a low C on Nutrition quizzes. The class has over 50 students, and the professor just stands up at the front of the class with her microphone and reads Powerpoint slides. She's an older British woman who claims to not know what a study guide is. Her quizzes are very tricky and just about everyone walks out of her class angry. She doesn't really tell us what to study, so it's hard to gauge what to focus on. Our text is Foundations and Clinical Applications of Nutrition, 4th ed., Mosby Press, and there is no companion site. Any suggestions on the best way to study for this class? I had no idea it would be this much of a challenge!
  13. I was very intimidated when I took Stats last spring, especially with the professor being merciless and demanding! I always made C's in algebra and calculus, but I actually got an A in Stats. I was even the only one in the class who would get up and work problems out on the board. I surprised myself everyday and the class was a real confidence booster. The prof even wrote me a recommendation for nursing school (*fingers crossed!!! won't know my fate for another few weeks!). The post above about it being a cook-book math class was dead on. It's all about formulas, so if you can remember which formulas to use for which data, you'll have no problem. It looks a lot more daunting than it is. Good luck!
  14. Submitted my nursing application this week!!! I waived my right to read my letters of rec, but my profs e-mailed them to me anyway. Now I just have to wait until November to find out whether or not I'll be starting nursing school in January......STRESS!!!
  15. Ignore her! I'm taking Anatomy, Chemistry, Micro and Nutrition this semester. A couple of my classmates have looked at me wide-eyed when I told them my schedule, but this is actually turning out to be one of my better semesters. I took Chemistry over the summer and got a D. I'm retaking it with a different professor -- who actually takes time to answer questions and doesn't make us feel like idiots for asking -- and I'm acing it. I'm not really doing anything different as far as study habits go, except, perhaps, I am much more competitive this semester b/c applications are due in a couple of weeks. I live with my fiance, don't have a job and don't have any kids, and I have adequate free time between classes to study. Someone told me that Anatomy was really hard, but I'm acing it so far. Of course, we haven't gotten to the bones yet lol. Anyways, don't listen to others' negativity. If you're dedicated and make every effort you can to do well, then you'll be fine.
