Nutrition Pre-req - easy vs hard

Published

Hey - gotta ??? for y'all!

When I registered for fall semester I registered for A&P and figured I'd take some easier classes to go with it, one of which is Nutrition.

I guessed it would be an easy class - but now I'm hearing differently!!!

What do you all think??? And any suggestions for pre-studying???

On Friday I ordered the Complete Idiots guide to nutrition...hoping that will give me a head start.

Any insights you would care to share...please please please!!! :p

2 weeks to go. This is definitely not an easy course from my current instructor. The test questions are really tough. I thought it would be an easy A. :stone I guess I was underestimating it - along with the rest of my class. LOL. In retrospect, I could have (and maybe should have) taken this class in the regular semester instead of summer. It would have been less difficult that way. Even so, with lots of study time, I am doing well. :)

Specializes in Med/Surg..

I just finished my Nutrition Course (I'm taking the last chapter test tomorrow) and taking the Final Exam next week. This was the first on-line class I've ever taken and really enjoyed it. I actually think learning this way (self-study) was a great way to do it. I've loved this Course, feel like I've gotten a lot out of it and hopefully it will help out a great deal when the actual Nursing Courses start in a few weeks. I've done well so far and really hoping with lots of cramming this week I can do just as well on the Final. Good Luck with your Class. Susan

Well...you guys have made me feel a little bit better!!! :p

Thanks a bunch!!! I can't wait until my Idiots Nutrition book comes in so I can pre-study! I finished my summer classes last night - so I figure I'll give myself a week to relax (yippy - I getta crochet!!!) and then start hitting the books again!!!

I loved my nutrition class. It was so interesting, and I really thought going into it that I would be bored beyond belief. My class had a Chemistry and A&P I prerequisite too. It wasn't exactly hard, and the chemistry in our class was pretty limited to the Kreb's cycle and glycolisis, etc. Not too bad.

also, our teacher was awesome. She made the more difficult concepts really interesting and easy to comprehend. Other than that, it was mainly about digestion and absorption, things like that. The class was a requirement for the ADN program I am starting in 2 1/2 weeks! You will probably like it!

Good luck!

I took Nutrition along w/ my Anatomy class this summer. It was a very easy A. I never studied for it all, Anatomy consumed most of my free time, But I got an A in both. A Nutritionist taught our class, and it never really delved into chemistry. After reading some of the posts maybe I got out lucky, but it was the easiest class I've ever taken.:)

 ohhhhh.....nooooooo!!!!!

i :angryfire hated :angryfire chemistry!!!

you guys have now officially  freaked me out!!!!!

Most of the material is very, very easy. You're probably already familiar with carbs, proteins, fats, vitamins/minerals, therapeutic diets within the hospital, and the food pyramid. It's one of the easiest classes in nursing school, if you just go to class every day & take good notes (as with any class).

As someone else already mentioned, you don't actually DO chemistry in a nutrition class. You may have to memorize parts of the Krebs cycle or glycolysis, or simply know what they do, but that's it. As for math, you will have to calculate the # of fat grams in something, or how many calories someone needs, or body fat -- all just very basic stuff.
