I figured since I am in a 2-year program, I would call myself a nursing student the first year then a student nurse the 2nd year since it sounds more official to me. How do you refer to yourself??

They're functionally equivalent titles. We sign our notes at clinicals with "SN".

I usually call myself "nursing student", but I have no ojection to being called "student nurse". Like hypocaffeinemia says, they're really one in the same.

When I inroduce myself to pt I say something like hello my name is Kim and I am the student nursing who will be taking care of you today. Something like that

When talking to others I say I'm a nursing student. When I introduce myself to a patient I say my name and than " I'm your student nurse for today. Then, I give them a big, huge, friendly smile :)

I introduce myself as a nursing student, however the instructors refer to us as student nurses. They say it with such pride as if one out ranks the other, I don't think so, I think they're one in the same, but thats just me

If I am not talking to a patient I will refer to myself as a "nursing student". However, when I introduce myself to a patient I refer to myself at a "student nurse".

Ditto on pretty much everyone. We chart as "Jane Doe, NS [school Name]". Or we will, when we get to start writing in charts instead of reading them hehe.
And when I introduce myself to my pt, I say Hi, I'm canundergrad, I'll be your student nurse for today *HUGE SMILE*, they usually smile back. Enthusiasm is contagious

You are a nursing student but your POSITION when you are at the hospital is student nurse.
These is effective Day 1 in your first semester at your first clinical.
So when I chart at the hospital, I chart Jane Doe, SN (then my school initials)

its funny SN denotes a staff nurse in the UK.
St/N is a student nurse. and Student nurse is the title we use the the UK not as a rule nursing student.
I sign my documention now with RN as otherwise i ack on instinct and sign St/N as i'm still very new qualified.

I just like asking random, off-the-wall questions once in a while. I think it lightens the mood:nurse:
