Hi everyone:
I am entering into the Nursing program this fall and I am a stickler for comfortable shoes. What are the best and most reasonably priced shoes out there. We have to have all-white nursing shoes (no clogs). I greatly appreciate anyone's help with this matter.
I'm working as a CNA in a Skilled Nursing Facility for the few months I have to wait before nursing school starts this fall, and I'm using these white cheap Nurse Mate sneakers I got for a little over $20... they're extremely light and very comfortable, even with the insane amount of walking I've had to do in them over the past few months. I got mine during a special sale from this place:

(You'd be amazed at the neat deals you can find from that place)
(The shoes aren't listed there now, though.. Bummer)
i'm going to get on my soapbox for a minute. this is for those who just feel that they have to force their big clodhoppers into these little, fashionable uniform shoes that some of the manufactures make. please think twice before doing this. as someone who inherited a very wide foot from their father i can tell you that none of the commercially made uniform shoes ever fit my wide foot. from the beginning i started having problems with shoes and standing on my feet for long hours. i've had plantar fasciitis twice over the years and it hurts to stand and walk around with that going on. in my second year as a working nursing i finally listened to people and went to an orthopedic shoe store and got fitted for shoes. that made all the difference in the world. i also wear arch supports in my shoes all the time to prevent the plantar fasciitis. you can get white uniform shoes in an orthopedic shoe, but there are not many choices of styles. i don't worry about fashion. when you've been at nursing as long as i have you learn that the comfort of your feet is much more important than what looks good on them. i learned years ago after seeing a couple of hammertoe surgeries that wearing pointed high heels just wasn't worth the price ladies pay for it in later years to have their twisted, contracted tootsies fixed up.
I'm a CNA, like Karmyk, and during breaks from school, I work nighshift, dayshift, whenever-they-want-me shift at a retirement home/nursing home. I've found that Reeboks have been very nice to my feet. I'm still using the pair that I got when I started working about 2 years ago. They are starting to show some wear now, but I love them so much I really don't want to give them up until they COMPLETELY die!
I have twisted my ankles really badly in Danskos. I like Crocs Rx - they are softer than regular and deep enough to use an orthotic. You have to order them from crocs.com.
They won't work if you can't wear clogs, though. BTW, my nursing school said that we had to wear white, full shoes, but no clinical instructor every enforced this.
I bought a pair of Dansko Professionals off ebay for about $40 over the summer... was going to use them as my "back-up" shoes since they were hard to get used to. I was in a rush one morning and slipped them on thinking oh-well guess I'll wear these... one day in new shoes won't be so bad. Within 2-3 minutes I forgot I had them on and I have been wearing them ever since... not a single day on my feet in clinical have I come home with sore feet, calves, legs or back!
I won't even consider wearing anything else to clinical now!
p.s. My school has a no clogs policy also... I have the closed back version and they are acceptable to my school.

may i ask how much these shoes cost (a ballpark figure)? i broke my ankle in 3 places over the summer and my ankle kills me after doing a 12-hour clinical day.
thanks so much and have a merry christmas!

wow, i have flat feet too, where can i get these nurse mates? i bought a pair of danskos, but haven't worn them yet. i need strong arch and heel support.
The thing with Dansko's is no half sizes, they are European sizing. 9's are too small 10's too big. I like them they would be comfy if they didn't slip or rub hahah.
I bought nurse mates they feel great, however I haven't truly tested them yet.

i personally don't like danskos (not because of the price but because of the feel).
