Rolling Backpack vs. Duffle

After looking through the LL Bean site, I started wondering if there would be an advantage to the duffle bag over the backpack? Or disadvantage? Maybe it's too wide? Seems like it might hold more overall, but maybe it'd be more chaotic and harder to organize? I just thought it looked more multi-purpose, but maybe not?!?!

I went with a rolling backpack from jansport. My books were SO heavy that I would have completely ruined my back if I tried to lug them. In Nur 1, my fundamentals book was 27 pounds alone! Plus notebooks, drug guides, nclex books, and other books that might need to be lugged. Plus there was an organizer in the front pocket for my pens/pencils/post-its/flags, etc. The only thing that sucked was that I took the elevator up to the various floors because my bag was just too heavy to lug up or down stairs.

I have seen several nursing students using small rollling airplane luggage type suitcases to carry their books and supplies around. And I have seen same students lugging around 2 gallon jugs of water. I forgot how thirsty being a student makes you.

i would definitely suggest the rolling bookbag!! between books, lunch, and any other supplies you might be carrying, a regular book bag might not cut it

I am taking a summer course called "preparation for basic nursing care" and will start the nursing program this fall. The program I am in is an integrated program so all of the different areas are intertwined (eg. peds, ob, geriatrics, med-surg..). So the nursing instructed recommended getting a rolling backpack/luggage case to carry our books....because we will need most all of our books everyday.

Rolling backpack is what I am planning to use. I have one from Anatomy, I plan on getting a newer one.

Oh, I guess my post was a little confusing...LL also carries a rolling duffle which is more like a piece of luggage....the thing about the bookbag/pack that has me concerned is it mentions a max weight of 25 lbs....from these posts and others I have read, the books we will have will put me WAYYYY over!!

I never looked at the max weight on my rolling backpack. And does it have to be LL Bean? And try seeing if they have a different model with a higher weight requirement. The rolling duffel seems like it wouldn't have any kind of organization, but that everything would be mish-mashed in there in one collective heap and would have no supportive edges to help protect books or lunch or electronics.

I got a new one today at Staples for $29. I got the one that was the roomiest! I got my last rolling backpack 2 years ago and it finally busted out in the bottom. I think no matter what you get it may not stand the test of time - we've got some pretty hefty books!
