Nursing School Supplies

Published

I've seen that Target has their back to school supplies out! I'm psyched. I start on August 24th.

I have an Erin Condren planner. We are forced to buy the schools laptop.

Other than that I have no idea what I should get for school supplies. I haven't had to buy them for so long! I've just used a notebook per class for my prereqs. Any thoughts or must haves?

Yes and have some type of planner. I had an Erin Condren planner that was a life saver!

Can I post a mini hijack here to ask what is significant about the Erin Condren planner? I had never heard of them before coming on this site.

OP, there are some helpful clinical supplies that you can find on amazon. I just typed in "nursing student' and a whole slew of things popped up. One thing I'm going to get in a small laminated card with lab values on it. I thought it might be helpful to keep in my scrub pocket. Also, your school may be able to provide you with a list of things you will need specifically for your program.

Its very pretty! It has spots to list goals for the month, a full month calendar followed by daily spaces to write in. There are motivational quotes through out. I added a meal planner insert that is reusable. There are folders in it... If you go to the website and there is a video that walks you through each unique feature. Here is mine... I chose to customize mine, but they have premade designs or you can put your name on it.

Tajing notes and studying for nursing classes doesnt take any special supplies. Just whatever you usually use. I am starting block 4 in August and have only needed the basic pens and highlighters for class notes. If you like to use note cards or sticky notes or a computer or recorder or whatever, then get all that stuff. But don't go crazy buying a bunch of stuff you never used before. Unless you are not passing, then there is no need to suddenly change your note taking and study habits. Nursing school is not the place to start experimenting with a new style for no reason.

With that being said the study methods I used for prerequisites were completely opposite of what I used in nursing school. I experimented and made a change for the better. So if you need to experiment, do not be afraid to do so!

Honestly there is nothing special about the planner. You can get a much cheaper one from walmart if that is what's desired. I loved mine because it was customizable, had plenty space to right, looked nice and helped to keep me focused. I am visual. I loved that I could see my entire week written out for me in one area. I still use my Erin Condren now that I have begun work and even got my mother one that she loves. But like I said any ole planner will do the job.

I got the Saunders Guide to Success in Nursing School, 2015-2016: A Student Planner, 11e from Amazon. I start is August as well and I LOVE the layout of this planner. Lots of tips, stress reduction advice, etc. I recommend it.

I'm gonna add a something about planners. I was set on an Erin Condren, but I really did not want to spend that much money on it. There is another planner made by "me and my big ideas" The happy planner is what it is called. You can buy it straight from their website, or on Amazon. These things go really quickly. I believe I paid $24 on Amazon for mine.

I ordered a planner off etsy. I think it was 1407 planners or something like that. I love it! I have nursing school, a household to run, a husband, and four kids(2 in school, 1 in prek, and another in a church program 2 days a week). This planner is huge and has plenty of room for everything. I am thinking about ordering a second one to just put nursing school stuff in. I highly recommend them.

The better binder system from Staples is another favorite. I like the variety in colors and I can coordinate my classes better because of it. I try to use the same color for everything in one class. Green binder, green highlighter(on my calendar), green index cards, etc. Organization is going to be crucial for me getting through nursing school so it may seem a bit overkill but I don't want to leave anything to chance.

This thread has been very helpful! Thank you!
