Nursing School changing criteria to pass classes

Hello,

I am a sophomore at my nursing school and when I first began it was required for nursing students to pass the class with a 75% or higher on their exams and have an overall score of a 75% or higher to pass the class (this included hw as well). Well now out of nowhere they have decided to change that rule and starting next fall you will need to pass your classes with an 80% or higher.

What is everyone else's minimum to pass their nursing classes at their nursing school?

all these letters and numbers are a bunch of ephemera.......it totally depends on the rigor of the program. If your pass rate on NCLEX is 85 %, then the B you passed with means less than the C that princessbride's program uses, if their NCLEX pass rate is 90%.

An individual would likely not take NCLEX enough times to have an actual pass rate, as that's a measure of how many times per the total attempts resulted in a pass.

If you meant to say that one program's graduates' pass rate is 85% and another's is 90%, and then meant to draw some conclusion from that about the relative worth of the grades from the passing students of each program, then all I can say is, "And this is why more nurses should take statistics." The mind boggles.

Finally, as for "ephemera," per my favorite quote from The Princess Bride (not the poster, the movie), "I don' think that word means what you think it does." It does not mean "something meaningless."

This might be a state requirement or it might be the school is trying to ascertain that more students pass NCLEX after graduation. Does not matter - you are aiming for the highest grade possible anyway, right?

I'm in an accelerated program and the minimum test grade is 75%. We must achieve a level 2 or 3 for the ATIs.

you are purposefully miss understanding my use of the word you, it is reference to the school, ie the whol student populace. number one below. please explain your comment on no relation between grades and NCLEX pass rate, it is about as clear as mud.

75 to stay alive! Except in Dose Calc where 85 was min and you had to get a 100% on the final or you flunked. We lost 5 people from Dose Calc final alone. Seemed unfair at the time, but I agree with it now. Med admin requires accurate, not good enough. One wrong dose/calc could equal a dead patient. Seems harsh, but it's true. Just my 2 cents.

80%???????DAMN. Our pass rate is 75% and that is already as hard and challenging as it is, much less for 80!

I'm in a 2 yr program and in our first semester we have 3 different grades we need to pass. 75% in theory , 85% in clinical, and 85% in skills. If you fail in one then you don't pass! Right now in 2nd semester we have 2 grades: theory 75% and clinical 85% and the same rules apply.

Yeah. At my program, we have a 95.5% NCLEX pass rate for first-time takers.

I agree that a "C" in one program may mean a "B" in another.

I graduated in Dec from an ADN program where 80% is passing, and a C. We have a 98-99% NCLEX pass rate and we are also being hired at a higher rate than other ADNs and many BSNs in our area because of it.

We also had several dosage calculation tests each semester that you must get 100% on.

It IS possible and it is worth it.

74 at my school, NCLEX pass rate is 94%
