Obviously this is done in the same vein as Nursing and Tattoos. After reading through that and the discussion at Disturb you to see a tongue pierced?, I was wondering how many "allnurses" had piercings. BTW, I don't have any and wouldn't consider doing it.

I have two ear piercings and a naval ring. I also have a tattoo on the back of my neck and another one on my lower back. My classmates and I say we're gonna get another one when we're DONE with school which will be in December!(our graduation present!:biggringi ) I DO get patients that ask me, "OOH! Did that tattoo on your neck hurt?!?" And I tell them, well not as much as the one on my lower back!!! And jaws drop! But it's OK.. no biggie!

I've had my lip pierced twice, separate times. Once in the middle, once on the side. Plus my nose.

Because of a recent surgery I had to take them out. I was almost relieved. I loved my piercings but I knew that to fit into situations appropriately I'd need to get rid of them eventually, the surgery made the decision for me.

Had my left ear pierced in a bizzare (and painful) episode. I sometimes wear a ring for it and sometimes don't.

Both my ears were pierced at birth though - ritualistic practice :)

I have my ears of course (2 in each side, and one cartilage) and my nose. I got the nose done when I was 15 and it just never closed.... so I only wear a tiny little diamond because otherwise I have an ugly hole there ( :uhoh3: teenagers)

some floors let me wear it, some don't

i have two holes at the bottom of each ear, and one at the top of my left ear, and i wear sleepers in them all. i also have my belly button pierced, and my tongue, and have had no comments on any of them. occasionally when i laugh, a co-worker will say 'have you got your tongue pierced?' and ask to see it. that's it. never had a patient notice.

also have a tattoo on my back that's semi-visible through my shirt, but that's not my problem.. not my fault they made our uniforms out of cheap fabric!

I have 2 holes in each ear. However I only wear one set of studs. Im sorry I got the second peircing in each ear. It was nice as a teen, but its a little wild for me now. :lol2: I guess I'm getting boring as I get older...

Both ears have several-wear studs and infant hoops only- also have cartiledge in one ear-stud only and my naval (can't see it unless I show it). I had all of these long before I became a nurse- and they are a part of my life away from nursing.

I voted and said that I do not have any piercings but would like them. In reality, my ears have been pierced a couple of times, but all the holes have closed up because I just do not wear earrings. I would like to get them pierced again and have a couple of pairs of really nice, small earrings that just stay in.

I have started wearing my hair up a lot and feel... "naked", without something nice in my ears!

I have both ears pierced - rarely use earings but the holes never seem to close over. Howerer since the person who did the piercings managed to twist my lobe navigating the hole can be a real!@#!

 Being old, I will never understand tongue piercings. Do young people do it for shock value or what? I can imagine the odor when food gets stuck in it....yuck! I prefer a clean mouth, thank you.

well, for me it wasn't shock value, it was a personal rebellion. i'd always been a very obedient teen, and i wanted a little something wild that i could sort of keep under wraps, but not totally. food doesn't get stuck in it (it's not like a big gaping hole, there's no [/i]room[/i] for food to get stuck!) and i can't think of a single occasion where it's interfered with me eating. and it's no dirtier than any other mouth. actually, considering some of the mouths i've encountered, mine's above average!

i'm also told that a pierced tongue may be of some benefit in the bedroom.

I told Matt if he ever asked for that benefit, to go find someone else.
