University of Oklahoma-Accelerated BSN Program

Nursing Students Online Learning

Published

Hi All,

I'm new to this site and to the field of nursing. Has anyone gone to this school and if so, what did you think?

I live in San Diego, CA, and there is an online program that this school offers. I'm 3 prerequisites away from applying to the school, with a start date of August 08. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Nicole

Ace Uniforms is downtown on 16th Street. Their website is aceuniforms.com and the full address should be there. I'm either going to head over there tomorrow or Monday. My community polo also looks ridiculous on me! The sleeves are down to my elbows! I guess we'll just have to wait on that one though.

Oh the community polos, LOL. They are all too big on everyone except me. One girl had hers tailored at a tailor and it looks really good. I think it cost her $12 to do it but she is happy with it.

personally, i plan on accepting the fact that i will be looking ridiculous at times for the next 14 months. "be comfortable with be uncomfortable" right?

Hi guys...My scrubs were also big, but I think if you wear layers under them, it will take up some of that room. Also, she said you want some room for flexibility and freedom of movement. I think that wearing the burgundy scrubs with white shoes is a bit strange looking...anyone else tried it?

I agree the program looks like it will be OK...fact is, we wont really know until we start. See you for lab orientation!

Yeah, the shoes look pretty dorky...especially the Cherokee Scrub Stars I bought! And they make the pants bunch up... I do like the drawstring waist -- my pants look huge at first but not so bad after I tighten it really far. For skills lab I bought a cheap pair of Dickies upstairs at the Ace Uniforms store ($25 for the set) and those are REALLY huge and sloppy. The top is much wider than my Landau one.

I picked the OKC campus when I bought it too! Hope that is ok.

As far as basic health insurance goes, I chose to go through Aetna rather than OU's Macori insurance. I didn't like the idea that it seemed to be based on students living in Oklahoma. The plan I chose is $149/month, but has no deductible and a $30 copay for doctors visits. I wanted to get kind of decent insurace so I can count on the fixed monthly cost more than worrying about what it would add up to if I were to get sick. I also looked at some Blue Cross plans, which I think would also be good. When I was at the open house as an alternate for the fall cohort, one of the women from OU (I can't remember her name!) said that if she were choosing insurance for her kids she wouldn't pick the insurance that OU offers since it is kind of "bottom of the barrel." That being said, if you are a very healthy person it could be more than enough for you! I don't think I helped much, but that is my :twocents:!

Sandiegohopefull, can you tell me what plan you got for health insurance? I think you got a good monthly price for zero deductible and I'm looking at the Aetna website but I can't find one that sounds like the one you got. Like you, I budgeted monthly so I could figure out my student loans and I'd like to not have to worry about meeting a deductible if I need to see a doctor. Thanks much!

Does anyone know the fax for the program?

PM me for the fax number.

I actually found it on ehealthinsurance.com. I just checked that website and it is still there. It is Aetna Managed Choice Open Access First Dollar 30 for $149/month. There is no deductible, but there is 30% coinsurance. For a regular doctor visit it is just a $30 co-pay, but from my understanding the coinsurnace means that if any x-rays or blood tests or anything are done you are responsible for 30% of that. It seemed like the best deal I could find for the money. It also does cover your yearly physical exam with the co-pay. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Hi everyone

I have a question if anyone can help me please

I am wondering how OU calculates our GPA...do they give different points for A- or A+ or both are considered to be As?

thanks

Nursing schools do not give +/-. As far as those grades from your pre-reqs I believe they have a system for calculating them. I am not sure what it is though, sorry!

Hi wannabe- while on the subject of grades, how difficult is it to get an A in this program? If known, what is the approximate curve in terms of grades in your current cohort... Just want to get a real ideaof how difficult it is to pass these courses.
