Losing my motivation

Fellow EC students,

Just got back from a vacation in the caribbean, it was heaven let me tell you. Ok so now I'm back, two exams down, was suppose to take one before I left on vacation but I opted to go and buy a bikini that day (I know, but the bikini looked good).

I've lost all my drive to do this program. I really just want to go the traditional route now, I don't just want to pass exams I want more knowledge. My PN program was fabulous but the info went in so fast and left I now feel like I need more to build on my foundation. I'm so confused right now, I've purchased most of my guides already paid for enrollment and now I feel like giving up.

Work doesn't help at all, Med-Surg is great but it is sooooo challenging. I'm learning alot but I also feel like there is still alot I need to know. Right now I just try and keep the patients alive and give all my meds. By the time I get home I am so exhausted that I can't even pick up a book and it's so hard for me to stay motivated without a live motivator.

I have an appointment with a college in my area they pened up a new LPN to RN program, so I know they are going to do everything to make the program work. I feel that I would have a better chance to build on my foundation if I take this route. I really don't want to be a nurse who just pushes meds all day.

Anyway, the program sounds really good, I'm meeting with the Director already (good sign) and I'll find out all about it later this week. I'm not giving up on EC just keeping my options open. Afterall, the wait time for the CPNE looks really ridiculous.

I'd probably have to cut down my hours at work if I went this route, right now work is the biggest stressor so I wouldn't mind that. Like I said, I'm not giving up on EC just keeping my options open....IF I go this route I probably would be done with the program before I get to CPNE with EC.

I'll keep you guys posted, let me know what you guys think good or bad.

Oh my goodness. I can't believe it Betterme29. You were one of my inspirations but I totally understand where you are coming from with this. I'm hoping I don't lose motivation when I start EC. But please fill me in on this other program you are talking about because we are in the same area. I respect and commend you on whatever decision you make!!!! BEST OF LUCK!!!

Akanini, it's really hard to say where I started losing it. I guess it's at work, when I have pt's with problems I have no knowledge about. I go home and read my Med-Surg books but I just feel that there are things that us LPN's didn't do in school. My whole program was a blurr...I basically studied to pass three to four exams per week.

I know if I had to do NCLEX-RN exam right now I could probably pass but does that make me an RN? Many would say yes but for me....no. I'm still studying for EC exams...but I'm also looking into this program.

I'll keep you posted on the program, and also my progress through these exams. :nuke::nuke: Thanks for the kind words.

Just keep this in mind: much of an RN's skills are gained AFTER he/she begins to work as an RN, not before. But if you don't feel like this is working for you, then definitely do what's best for you! :)

I am kind of motivationless right now too. With looking for other jobs, having a 3 week old new baby girl, work strain, remodeling part of the house, and life in general.

I have taken NC1 have order NC2 and 3 but have not found time to study. I think next week I will try and find the motivation to get going again, hopefully. But NC2 is kind of boring but I need it since I am doing this as a paramedic.

keep up and "never give up, never surrender"

Ok, so I'm back from the meeting with the schools Director of Nursing, what can I say a real waste of time and money. Had to put gas in the car and pay toll for them to only tell me my sciences (A&P) need to be taken over with them, even though I passed it. Also, I would have to take over my Lifespan Psy....ah no thanks. Apart from that the program is 11 months, I DONT want to take anything over unless it's a must. So therefore, back where I started. And it's not a bad start at all, so far all the programs I've checked out doesn't compare to EC.

Thanks Lunah, what you said is right, boy do I know a few nurses I want to ask...what school did you graduate from again? Can I say clueless...but I hate to talk about someone elses faults. I just have to deal with my own, anyway I have to pick myself back up and get back into the groove. EC is the way for me, nobody said it would be easy but it's doable.

Now, I really need to get back on track and knock these exams out to apply to CPNE by summer. Lunah, how long have you been waiting on CPNE now? Whatever the wait, it's certainly much better than the traditional programs and their hidden agendas on making money.

Ok, gotta run...got my motivation back with EC thanks for all the support.

BetterMe, just keep plowing through at Excelsior. And find and pay a tutor if you need one (and if you can).

I'm taking the CPNE the end of May. Applied the end of December.

Frankly, aside from some IV sruff, I don't see a lot that RN's do on the floor that LPN's didn't. A foley's a foley. An EKG's and EKG.

BetterMe29, my girl...straight up from Brooklyn! Oh, how I admire you EC people because I just couldn' teach myself. I took the 3 Cleps and the AnP exam but failed that Health Safety exam and I was sooooo scared. I honestly, believe that my mom put a curse on me just so I wouldn't do EC..lol.. You know those old school nurses believe in sitting in the classroom. So I did. I ventured to Helene Fuld College of Nursing 1year LPN to RN program in Harlem, NY. I've met some wonderful professors and fellow students.... All I can say is whichever route you take for the RN, all the best because this is noooo joke. OMG. I feel like my brain is going to POP!

OP, you finished EC and you were "losing your motivation." GREAT!! I backed out on EC from you but we will surely be studying for the Nclex and doing the BSN together! Love ya, mama! All the best!

I too was losing motivation for Excelsior College because I will be moving to CA for four years due to my fiancee being stationed in CA. After speaking with several people on this board and other boards I am not going to give up on my Excelsior education just because one state board of nursing is putting road blocks to keep graduates from endorsing in. I am only going to be in CA for four years and I am prepared that I will have to work as a LVN for those four years. Be it, I am advising not to lose motivation.

nurse angela- if you are a military spouse or will be near or on a military base you can work on base under ANY state nursing license. So if you have a KY RN license when you work on a military base at the hospital or clinics you don't have to have that states license!

EX i had an OHIO LPN, and worked at Ft. Hood texas on post at the hospital under my OH Lpn licesne...make sense?
