HELP!!!--retake Physiology

Nursing Students Online Learning

Published

grrr. I'm so bummed. Found out yesterday I didn't make it thru passing Human Physiology. I'm so mad, upset, etc. etc. I have to retake this summer but all our local CC's, Uni's, etc. are booked already with their human phys courses.

Does anyone know of any on-line, web-based physiology courses that you don't have to be in any particular state to take? I just need this one single course--could be anatomy & physiology together as one course--has to be accredited too. I've searched the internet for some and found a lot that are associated with nursing programs, i.e. you have to be enrolled in the nursing program to take it and I just want that one course. And quickly too! :rotfl:

Thanks guys! If anyone knows of something I know this will be the place to find out. I appreciate it so much---a glimmer of hope after feeling nothing but dispair!

I can't help you in the course area, but I know what you're going through. I was supposed to graduate next week and just found out that I have to retake cardiac nursing. Try not to be too hard on yourself, it happens to the best of us! :) Good luck with finding an opening somewhere.

i'm taking that microbiology class too! maybe we can be internet study partners!

hey topcat, that's great!! have you gotten your book yet? i ordered mine for only 89.95 and the bookstore wanted 138.95!! we have to have the new edition.

What program are you in? I'm doing excelsior and I took the A&P test last week and got a B. It's worth 6 credit hours. It took a fair amount of studying, but it's certainly doable.

where did you get the books from? i've tried getting books thru half.com and other sources before and no matter how early i seem to order them from these alternate sources, i never seem to get them on time for class. :angryfire so i went ahead and ordered from the bookstore to save myself the grief. have you downloaded the virtual lab yet? it was extremely easy and quick if you have broadband or higher. then the licensing dept emails you the license code to access it.

i am so excited! i might have to take the a&p this summer as well - i am waiting to hear back from the science chair for more info.

It is not tough, moderate studying. I did not study as much as I should have. I had 3 courses: A&PI, Microbiology and Ethics. Also, I started a new job the same day I started class. My job was in a mess and I had to put in a lot of hours! But I came out well in the classes. I did not like Ethics because it required a lot of writing. :angryfire I like learning about the different ideas but too many writing assignments!!

NurseDiva,

What is your take on this class? Tough or Not

Thanks

NurseDiva - I'm starting Microbiology June 7th. What's it like??

I took it with A&PI and Ethics. It was fine. A lot of reading but I did not study my courses until the weekend because I was burnt out during the week from my job. So, at first, my weekends were totally nothing but studying and a couple of hours for church. Then, I started taking a break after studying from about 6 am until 2 pm. I would go to the store, movie. Then I would pick it up again.

At first, the virtual lab was not easy. But after about the 2nd or 3rd lab, you will be able to innoculate those boggies really fast. Also, if you miss up, you can always start over and redo them and not be penalized.

Wow! Great to hear that so many people will be in the microbiology class! I just finished all of the registration stuff for the class last week. I am in a weird situation because I am taking the Excelsior College exam for both Microbiology and Human Growth and Development fairly soon. I have taken most of my other missing prereqs at the Community College of Vermont but if I do not pass the Excelsior College exams, which is a total gamble since I have not exactly spent a lot of time studying, I had to have a backup plan. I have done online classes before and not being particularly disciplined, I saved most of my work until the weekend.

However, in the summer I wanted to be able to travel a bit before I started the craziness of full time school in the fall, and online seemed more flexible. Nurse Diva-you rock with being able to take all of those classes and work full time. I barely survived A and P II and working.

As I really would rather not take any classes this summer..anyone have any tips for the Excelsior College exams? I cannot believe that I did this but I bought a CD of notes from Ebay for the micro exam..it is again a gamble but with the time crunch anything may help.

Happy Mother's Day!

You could also do what I was known to do more than once in my collegiate career, which is crash the course and pray for people to drop out or have the prof take pity on you and let you in.

Just to let you all know I am retaking Physiology at Rio-Salado online. so far it is working out very very well. It's good for me because it is more like a refresher in both anatomy and physiology and I can do the lessons in my own time, self-paced, etc. Also important because I am now taking Microbiology Mondays-Thursdays, Micro Lab Tuesdays & Thursdays and also sociology on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at my local community college. So as usual, my plate is full. I'm actually enjoying Micro much more than I did Anatomy and Physiology. A lot of fellow students had trouble with physiology--instructor related. He taught it like he was teaching a graduate level and never ever explained anything. Just threw words at us and if someone asked ??'s he would rarely explain them...just said to look at the book. All in all, I don't enjoy the associated science courses, especially the labs. I don't feel like a researcher and don't enjoy doing experiments, etc.

at any rate, Micro (and retake of phys) will be my last science courses (hooray)....can't wait. Good luck to all of you!
