I've been out of touch for a while...I went to log on to Nursing Jocularity's website...and I got an advertisement for an ISP. Anybody know what happened to the Nursing Journal of Jocularity? Are they still out there?

Yes, JNJ is no longer being published as far as I know. The publisher was killed in a tragic auto accident this past year. A great loss.

I was the Editor of JNJ for 5 years. The magazine ceased to exist when the publisher, Doug Fletcher, RN, and three of my other friends died in a car accident May 1, 1998.

I miss it too.

I used to subscribe to JNJ, and loved it.....it was very sad when the people responsible for so many great laughs were killed in that MVA.

I wish someone would bring the magazine back.......not only would it provide us nurses with some much-needed humor, but also honor the original publishers. I'm sure they would have wanted it to go on.

sorry for your loss - it was a great magazine - it hit so many things right on the head that are funny about nursing - stuff that is only funny if you are a nurse - my husband never really appreciated it (he's an engineer)

Fran! . . . . . . So nice to see your post!! :)

Fran and Doug were very close friends as well as working partners for the Journal of Nursing Jocularity. I've had the honor and pleasure of meeting and working with them both on humor-related projects. They were part of a small team of people who published one heck of a magazine; a magazine that brought many-a-needed smile and chuckle to many, many healthcare professionals. The JNJ, founded by Doug Fletcher, was quite unique! To Doug's credit, I believe the JNJ to be the first and only type of magazine dedicated towards nursing humor that ever existed (with a healthy following!) at that time! What a vision and project he brought to life!!!

On a personal note, my old heme/onc unit used to subscribe to the Journal of Nursing Jocularity, I'm proud to say! I now do per diem work for that unit. When I return to work there, I pick up an old copy of the JNJ and have myself a good chuckle. Also, every now and then I hear and read accounts of nurses sharing the delight they experienced when reading their copies of the JNJ. Cool! :)

I know that for Fran and a whole lot of other people, May 1, 1998, is sadly burned in their memories. However, it is encouraging to read that, 7 years later after that horrific date, people STILL enjoy reading their old copies of the JNJ! I know that I still do! ;)

It is heart-warming to know that Doug Fletcher's vision and humor lives on! :)
