Pre employment personality screening

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

Any advice about what to do if the HR personality pre-screening quiz pigeonholes you as a poor fit for an organization and refuses to forward your resume to the nurse manager of any department? :sorry:

I feel I am a very flexible, hard working person and have always had good working relationships with previous employers and coworkers. I've never been fired or asked to leave and have excellent references yet an organization that owns the majority of local facilities has recently adopted the practice of this pre-screening quiz. It's one of those ones that if you're flexible and adaptable you're thinking the entire time "well it depends". :wacky:

Win the lottery. I know what you are up against. It's awful, but I think you have gotten the job by now, yes?

Lol, yes I found a position at a better organization with a better fit. Love the unit, love the managers, love the nurses, working through getting back into the swing with occasional snarky providers but that's gonna be the case in any organization. :)

I am not a fan of these 'screening tools'. Best case? They slow down the hiring process & simply don't add any value. Worst case? An organization end up with insufficient levels of diversity... a company full of clones is not healthy. IMO, the least damaging way they can be used is just to generate a 'fit score' and let the hiring manager decide whether to interview or not.

There is a large body of psych research on personality testing. One of the most consistent findings is that - everyone lies, particularly on test items related to honesty. (srsly). The more experience you have with these screens, the more able you are to figure out exactly what answers they're looking for.
