There I was, floor supervisor, when asked to assist the M.D. check a patient's Decubitus. The "pt" was a bil. amputee, and had the worst hip decubitus I had ever seen. The M.D. takes a look, and tells me he will need to go to surgery. He wanted me to debridepart of an area he showed me. Much to my SURPRISE!!, I pulled on some eschar, and out came a dead RAT!!!:eek: This was the only time I EVER GOT SICK! How Nasty!!

That is so sick. He could have died from the infection. I would have had to hurl for sure.

I find this very difficult to believe! In my state, only trained wound care specialists are able to debride. I looked at your profile, I didn't see any wound care training?

Sorry?? Maybe what happens in your state isn't the be all and end all of nursing in the rest of the big wide world. Also, since when did it become compulsory to put all of our certificates and qualifications in our profiles?? Lay off, shygirl.

OZ Nurse and Sunny Girl you crack me up especially with that funny little baby picture.

I wanted to say that where I worked for ten years we all had a rat story inside a body orifice too. I was working in NICU. A baby was delivered very sick with a fever of unknown origin. yea right. Anyway, the doc's, nurses and other staff, who were there for labor and delivery tell all of us that before the baby came out a dead hamster or gerbil came out first. I wasn't there but when we couldn't find the organism this baby was dying from I suggested we look up for the virus and bacterial infections you can get from the rat family. Everyone laughed, but I was dead serious and got mad at them. Now that I look back it was pretty funny response.

No! Shygirl they weren't being mean you are the one that questioned the story and then had the audacity to question their credentials now who is being mean! While your finger is pointing at them your thumb is pointing at you!!!!!!!

As for Muttely man, I would have vomited there too. Now that was the grossest I have ever heard the stench alone would have gotten me!!!!!!!
