Whoever replaces the roll gets to make the decision.
By the way, I have my strong toilet paper opinion for two reasons. One, Ann Landers once said it should hang from the front. (No, I don't trust her for everything). Also, I once worked cleaning hotel rooms for a very particular elderly Danish woman whom I greatly respected. She wanted everything done "just so" and she taught me well.

After the votes are in I must know if you won the bet or not!
Mar 9, '03After the great paper hanging debate, will the seat be left up or down? I have been conditioned to lower the seat after completing my business.

"Sitting on the back of the toilet 'cause someone is too lazy to remove the old spool...."
isn't on here I see
It does belong in the front though. That is the way it always is in restrooms everywhere.
Mar 9, '03Most definitely facing the front. I hate trying to find the end when it is hidden in the back (also, my kids use just as much either way - they adapt quickly!).
Mar 9, '03Ha, my family places it on the back of the toilet too . . or the sink or the floor beside the toilet or on the edge of the bathtub.
I do not care one way or the other as long as it gets on the dang spool!
I never even gave this a thought until the Ann Landers columns.
Not worth a fight over however. As long as the paper is somewhere in the bathroom and not in the pantry just when you need it.
Mar 9, '03My MIL taught me to hang it facing out, so the print shows. She died 20 yrs ago and every time I change the toilet paper I think of her. If I happen to put it on wrong I have to go back and change it. She also told me not to let the kids play with the stuff under the sink. Duh.

Agree with Sandy B. Paper is supposed to come off the top of the roll. If you don't believe us, note that toilet paper with printed patterns is designed to dispense pattern-side-up when you hang it so it rolls from the top.
Of course, we haven't hung our new toilet paper hardware yet, so our rolls of TP kinda float all over the bathroom.
But I'm assuming the way stargazer has so wonderfully described is "facing the front" so that's how I voted.

Mar 9, '03I have not yet switched careers into nursing, and currently I work in the engineering department for a major tp manufacturer. You'd think I could get the inside scoop on this stuff! :-)
I have never been able to decide which way I prefer the tp to hang, so I just put it on there whichever way it happens to be...
Hanging down the back, it seems to tear off easier, without unwinding the whole roll accidentally. But hanging down the front, the cute little patterns are visible and right-side-up. Decisions, decisions! Life can be so difficult!
And as far as whether to leave the seat up or down, I prefer the whole thing to be closed - seat & lid down. Mastiffs tend to get REALLY slimy when they drink, and you don't want to be the first one to have to go to the bathroom after one has had its head in the toilet - what a mess!!!
Mar 9, '03Facing front...with the little hotel "point" hehe my mom still does that after working at a hotel 20 yrs ago :chuckle I guess she want to remind us we're all just "guests" so we won't overstay!
