Nursing diagnosis "altered energy field"

"Altered energy diagnosis"

Do you support this NANDA diagnosis? Or do you feel that this diagnosis threatens the legitamacy of our profession? Nanda still stands behind it. What are your thoughts?

If not, you can always go to a bookstore and buy "Statistics for Dummies".:)

Grannynurse:balloons:

Naaa... not worth it. Just go to the local library and check it out. The "dummies" series actually are pretty good books most of the times when one wants to learn a new subject. Actually it can be a good basic reference.

Well, I hope I don't offend anyone here, but it is my opinion that there is no scientific basis for human "energy fields". Nor is there a scientific basis for intellegent design. Nursing is a profession grounded in science as is the process of evolution.

But please, I hope this doesn't turn into a debate on the merits of ID.

You're not offending anyone with your opinion. However, you have a lack of knowledge about human energy fields. Western medicine is now far behind the current sciences; that is why I say that Western medicine does not even acknowledge the existence of cell phones or even the way some of their diagnostic equipment works...and nursing is right there also, LOL!

There is a group of nurses that places such faith in strict scientific findings, that they cut off their collective noses to spite their collective faces. Too bad but what can one expect.

It takes a big nurse to pick on a uneducated lil' ol nursing assistant!

***see my quote***:)

Ahhhh....I wonder if one gets a headache from squinting down through the clouds at the bedside nurses.....reigning supreme atop a throne of journals and textbooks. It must be terribly frustrating trying to enlighten those that obviously lack education and insight because they choose to actually nurse. (sarcasm intended)

~~this is a general comment and not directed at any particular individual. if one feels singled out and chooses to take exception, then so be it~~

Amen! I am just beginning to wonder, as a lowly LPN student, if the worst thing to ever happen to Nurses was Masters and PhD's being awarded in the field.

An education that promotes better patient care is great; an education that promotes bureaucracy, excess "administration", lofty "ivory tower" crud like "nursing diagnoses", and managers that manage paperwork rather than patient care is a useless education IMHO.

There was no scientific bases for serveral of Einstein's theories, so I suppose you rank him up with the proponents of intellegent design. And nursing is more then just a science. It is an art as well, although one wouldn't know it based on some posters.

Grannynurse:balloons:

This is often said, even by intelligent people, but is completely untrue. Einstein's theories of relativity were not new, or even his own. His contribution, like Newton's, was not that he figured out a new theory, but that he figured out how to prove the theory. All of his theories were preceded by quantitative research. To do that with energy fields would require that someone 1. Measure the energy fields and 2. Come up with measureable outcomes.

Here are the three problems I have with the "altered energy field".

1. There are no measurable assessments or outcomes. How do I chart an evaluation of the effectiveness of an intervention?

2. In the facility that I am at, any diagnosis that is made must be charted to by every subsequent nurse. Therefore, if one nurse makes this diagnosis, then every nurse who takes care of that patient must evaluate and intervene, whether they have received any training (or believe) in energy manipulation.

3. Though some patients and practitioners may believe in energy fields, the vast majority of patients in the US (which is still part of the Western world) not only do not believe in them and would have serious doubts about anyone who diagnosed them with a disturbed energy field.

No, me neither, just didn't understand your statement.

Hope I wasn't rude guys, just kidding around.:imbar

How to understand statistics, July 28, 2003 bbc.co.uk I'm sure you should be able to under\stand the last reference.

Grannynurse:balloons:

This is the statement that seemed to be an attempt to suggest that I was intellectually challenged, not the part about statistics for dummies:p

This was further back in the posts.

Your words, not mine. And the series -------- for dummies is utilized by both the minimally educated to the advance educated, so, once again, it is your choice of the word 'uneducated'. If that is how you view yourself that is unfortunate but your misfortune, certainly not mine.

Grannynurse:balloons:

I am wondering why you are so angry?
