nursing course failure--help!

I am halfway through with my nursing core classes and last semester I recieved a 78.56% in nursing care of adults I. The required passing grade is an 80%. I am not allowed to retake the class for another year. I transferred to this school (Ohio University) after my freshman year which put me back a year already. Therefore, retaking this class at this school will put me at 6 years total for my undergraduate which is disappointing to me. I am wondering if anyone has any information at all at what I can do or schools that would accept me into their program with nursing credits. My school has not helped me at all with another plan or what to do which has made me feel abandoned and makes me not want to stay there.

    You have to wait an entire year and not a semester? If that is the case, then I am terribly sorry. At my school, they give you the chance to retake the semester the following semester if you fail. In my cohort, luckily no one has failed or had any circumstances preventing them to move on with the program. But we have had three students join our group after having to retake the semester. Sorry to hear about the misfortune. I wish you luck!

    As for whether or not there are schools that will accept your nursing courses, I believe they're out there. Good luck finding them or continuing with your program.

    P.s. when I graduate, I will have 8 years of undergrad so don't let the number of years taken to graduate get you down. Just think of the additional knowledge you have gained from the extra time!

    Well at my school you also have to wait a year to retake the class. Everyone that I have known that failed has not been happy about failing but has just waited the year and finished. I am also in Ohio and I personally do not know of any schools that accept nursing credits.

    If you really want to switch schools then you just need to call around and ask the schools around you if they accept nursing credits. Good luck. If you have to wait then just use this time to find out how you went wrong in your last class and just relaxing. Good luck.

    Use the year wisely -- get any other courses out of the way that you can. Considering adding a 2nd major or minor to your course of study. Get a job to earn some money. Get certified as a nursing assitant and get a job in a hospital to improve your skills and to help you get a job after graduation. etc.

    It's not uncommon for schools to only offer a course once per year -- which is what necessites the wait to re-take a failed course. They may not have the student demand or the teaching resources to teach the course more often than that. It may not be "their fault" that they can't do anything to help you re-take the course more quickly.

    You may find another school to accept your credits ... but it is rare that another reputable school would accept your existing nursing credits. That means you would have to "start over" at the other school -- meaning that it would take you at least as long to get admitted, take all the courses, and graduate as it would to stay where you are and take the delay. Also, having 3 schools for your undergraduate degree (at least 1 with a course failure on it) won't look good.

    So while there is no harm in looking for another school ... your best bet may be to stay where you are and use the year wisely to help you graduate (a year late) with the job experience and extra coursework to strengthen your future job and/or educational endeavors.
