Nursing Cap

Published

Just curious, do nursing schools still have special caps associated with them? Does anyone know what the local caps looke like?

I have not seen a nursing cap in decades, I do not think any school issues one.

Aww, that's too bad. I was hoping to get one at least so that I could have a protrait with it on just like my mom.

Most older schools still have "their" cap, although almost no one uses them any more (which I think is a huge shame and a big loss for nursing, but I realize that's a minority opinion :)). Many (although not all) newer schools have not bothered to establish a "school" cap or "school" pin (unique to the school).

I am a nursing student in an LPN program and we still wear the white nursing cap along with a white uniform for graduation.

We definately still do the traditional white nurses dress and cap for our pinning ceremony!!! The caps are awful but it is a tradition and yes we have a specially designed cap that is unique to our school.

For our graduation and pinning, we have to wear the silly Nursing Cap.

I just got my old cap out today and washed it. Actually, I soaked it in Clorox as it was so filthy and stained. I'm going to try to do something with it for Nurses' Day at work, but I'm not sure what.

What does it look like? Where do you go to school?

I, for one, am glad that my nursing school didn't require us to wear a cap at the pinning ceremony! :uhoh3:

We actually got a new dean and she eradicated the whites including the cap for graduation which had always been tradition, and all the students in our school put up quite the fuss. We all love the tradition. We did end up getting a new dean that has changed the rule and is letting us wear them now. While I won't wear it on the floor when I get a job, I was very excited to go buy my white nurses cap and I'll be so excited to wear it tomorrow for graduation!
