Do you believe hospital administration has the right to prohibit wearing tongue piercings or multiple ear piercings while on duty?
I guess I'm one of those trashy nurses. I've got a tongue piercing that I wear a flat stud in for work and surprisingly no one has noticed it. I also had a nipple pierced for a while and recently removed it. Oh and before I forget, I've got a tatoo as well and am planning the design for my next one. I guess my whole take on things is that if you're the type of person that would judge me based on appearances, you're the type of person I have no interest in knowing anyway, and I couldn't care less what your opinion is of me. I know I competently and compassionately complete my duties at work, and I won't be losing any sleep at night that someone has made an incorrect judgement about the type of person I might be.
I have two holes in both earlobes and I would love to get my belly button pierced but I am afraid of the pain. (I am a panzy I admit it). One day I will do it but not right now. I always wear small studs or very small hoops in my ears for many years when my niece and nephews were small and they pulled on my hoops.... i never wore them at work. But I don't mind people that do wear piercings at work, it is their right just like patients rights to also.
I don't believe that people that are pierced are trash and I hate for people to call other people that. You need to be careful what you write on bulletin boards cause people can take what you say the wrong way. I have watched people get upset with what someone else said on the BB and people have left, I would hate for that to happen again. Just my opinion. anyway I will get my nose out of here.....
I'm not exactly sure what you are saying here but I will just assume nothing...I
Sorry about that, my mind was revolving around the other many gender/age/sex/etc related discrimination discussions going on. I suppose that it didn't come across quite as I'd intended (one liners will do that to ya). My point really is that we can probably all find something at sometime in our lives that we were discriminated against or criticized for or because of. I won't go any further than that since there are numerous other threads on discrimination in all its shapes and forms elsewhere on the site - just trying to clarify a bit. :)
I agree that piercings should be taken out for work. Just the idea of one of them getting ripped out is enough to freak me out! My former work place had a policy and I followed it no problem, I knew this going into the job. I can always get repierced if I want at some other time, not a big deal. My tats...love them, they are who I am and if someone thinks I'm trashy, well then it's their problem not mine. If someone is so concerned with the idea that a woman would put a flower on her wrist and ankle, troubled enough to call her trashy then they need a serious wake up call to reality! Just about everyone has one! Grandmothers, grandfathers, WWI, WWII, Vitenam, Korea, Gulf War Vets. A friend who was in a car accident with her best friend who died has a tat of an angel to remember her...trashy...far from it! I am who I am and no amount of words like, trashy, low class, low rent, low income, white trash, or anything else you can think of will stop me from being who I am. Matter of fact...keep them words a'comin' cause they only make me stronger!
While I have no opinion on people having piercings or tattoos - other than following administrative policy - I had to laugh at the remark regarding what type of people have piercings.
About 5 years ago, I was in the Carribean at an upscale resort, on a nude (gasp) beach . I was amused to see all of the 50, 60, and yes 70+ year olds with multiple piercings in inconspicious places. My husband and I dined with an ER doctor and his RN wife at dinner one evening, and were told that one of gentlemen was a very wealthy investment banker from NY, and one was a prominent judge!
Relax people. The only thing a piercing tells about a person - is that they like piercings.
Anyone who calls people "trash" for having tattoos or piercings has made it very clear on what they think of all human beings in general though. :)The day of graduation, that'll be my first day of "trash" too, since i'll be getting my first celebratory tattoo. And getting the belly repierced.
(Spent 6 years living in a trailer, moved out at 18, so i'm wondering if that makes me 6 year trash or lifetime trash though? :uhoh21: j/k)
I think you are looking for the term trailer trash LOL :rotfl:
Hey to each his own you guys are expending a lot of effort and anguish over such a silly subject. Narrow minded people will not change and open minded people will se others for what or who they will. Agree to disagree! People are always looking for ways to make themselves different and unique tatoos and piercings are expressions of freedom. If you work at a faciltiy that has a policy against piercings or tats either follow policy or go somewhere else.

Yeah, nobody should be sportin' those big J-Lo hoops unless they want a torn lobe...If you would like to know more about the risks of certain types of piercings i.e. eyebrow, lobe, cartilage, etc. you can go:
please note this site does have graphic pictures of piercings on it that include piercings "below the belt" if you choose to view them...
MAN what a site OUCH!!! :chair:
I had to come and say OMG!!! There are some serious people about life styles and changes to the equipment you were born with!!!!!

What i refered to "getting ripped out" was earrings, noserings, and eyebrow rings.
And i won't address the material things. :rotfl:
