AGREE big time..what better way to have a "reference" from someone. besides it makes you feel soooo good!!Its not discourteous to anyone and in the long run everyone feels good...allow yourself that pat on the back, you deserve it!!Go girl go!! Make your move and don't regret another minute! Do what's good for you/family. Sure it helps to have another "professional" vouch for you but don't forget to utilize an MD you've associated with or a co-worker, a former patient?....if management won't/can't recommend then pick whomever. will benefit you....use your imagination...all kinds of folks out there you've impressed...just do whatever's good for you...employers forget you as soon as your out the door...always always ask/check with someone prior to using them as a reference..common courtesy....good luck! Why pay those of us that know the way the system works and can really prove thats theres "no shortage" of nurses ...h#lls bells theres a ton of nurses out there that choose not to be subjected to the same BS thats been going on for years...THIS CRAP HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR OVER 30 YEARS! and guess what...nurses still don't know how to bargain for themselves the way they should! Hate to say it but I would love to see nurses unionize...we can't seem to do it by ourselves so lets get somebody in there that can produce for us!...15K for 2 yrs of licking their boots?? I don't think sooo....just my thoughts folks...I hope the next generation of nurses wise up big time and make the system lick their boots!! I really need to win the lottery.....thx for listening....:) When I've given 2-3 cc per hip my patients were always recumbent! Never standing and never seeing my "equiptment". I'd go vagal on seeing a 16 or 18 guage needle too! Common sense tells you to insure patient safety and keeping them upright is asking for trouble....esp when injecting more than 2 cc in hip or whatever....treat every pt as tho' they'll faint irregardless! They may want to be brave but common sense should take over....remind them that if they topple you may not be able to hold them etc....do whatever it takes to insure their and your safety....besides your the "mother" in this situation! I'm still learning about TX since moving here a few yrs ago...have a good one.....:):) The last agency I worked for billed either the patient who in turn was reimbursed by their Ins. company or the insurance company paid after negotiating a charge(s) for services rendered. On admit the RN still filled out an OASIS but for info only...we did not follow medicare guidelines for private pays. If the private pay was HMO or PPO the agency case manager called for a PA# (prior auth) or reference # (used for billing purposes) and updates on pts progress every 7-10 days or so to case mgr of ins company. They in turn may request E-Z graphs or written/computer documentation which would assist them in justifyin more visits for x days etc...The agency made lots of $$ on private pays....hope this helps...:) :):) :) Welcome to the USA! If your totally so uncomfortable with LTCF bag it! On the other hand it could turn out to be a most gratifying experience for you! Remember you'll be in their shoes one of these years....Sure, it'll be hard work, just like all other nursing jobs...don't kid youself. It will present you with facts and I'm sure you'll be able to decide one way or the other if this is your time to stay or move on....in my 34 yrs, I've worked a number of positions and believe me when I grow up I'll know what I want to do???!! Send me chili!!!:) :)Hey Fergus! I moved to Houston 3 yrs ago after living in Alb for 20+ yrs... The sunsets are outstanding, the green chili and Blue Margaritas will spoil you and the skiing is great when it snows. Taos and Santa Fe definitely have the better slopes...Santa Fe... is more expensive to live there as a number of Hollywood stars have moved to the area but they have wonderful expensive restauran food. I believe St. Vincents Hosp in SF is unionized....nurses got ticked off a number of years ago and walked out...hooray for them...Taos much more small town atmosphere but if you like mountains, camping etc, its a great place! Taos has a small hospital...Lots of politics w hospitals in Alb esp between Reg Med Ctr and Pres....its in the history and no one wants to forget about it...well the "big boys" don't forget...hope I haven't scared you, NM really is a beautiful place to be in and such a different part of the world...want a real change?, go to Gallup, NM for a year. Btw my dad just told me St. Joes has reopened the West Mesa hospital (one of those smaller facilities and Pres is building a new hosp out on the mesa too....feel free to email me for mo'.... I moved to Houston 3 yrs ago after living in Albuquerque for 20+ years....Best things about NM is the "slow" paced attitude but thats NM and the green chili! Anaheim's just don't make it in Houston...I never did work the hospitals in Alb, did do Pres reviewing med records w the HMO tho', did Qual Med mid 80's, the PRO org and even medical supply sales. I agree, stay away from LL, and PRES (roll my eyes), UNMH is an excellent hospital as far as being a Level 1 trauma center and the residency program is rated at #2 or 3 I believe. Best place for a nurse to add to education. Also I'd recommend, well its not St. Joes since I left, someone bought the Sisters of Charity...Its something like St Joseph's Regional Medical Center??? That hospital had the best reputation of being the most "homey" type hospital....they have some of the best docs I think...they talk with you and not down at you....Dr. Chong, what a sweetie.... sniff...Gardunos on 4th St is best restaurant for New Mexican cuisine and Blue Margaritas..Lots of politics between all the hospitals....Pres and LL always changed management every few years, always scary and one of the reasons I never wanted to be involved w those systems...lots of good friendly people tho' and good food....
