:) :) UNM, Albuquerque, New Mexico....Level 1 Trauma facility....Good luck!

Could be nursing school reject w/4.00
 Good grief! Politics!!? or dealing w the wrong person....take your situation to the Director/Manager/Supervisor or someone "higher up" for either clarification/justification or rectification (?)...heck, go to the President or whom ever...don't let some office boob kill your plan...Good luck!!

How can such small kids take so much energy???
- How do you get patients to give you a "very good?"
AGREE big time..what better way to have a "reference" from someone. besides it makes you feel soooo good!!Its not discourteous to anyone and in the long run everyone feels good...allow yourself that pat on the back, you deserve it!!- what is the more acceptable time to leave?
Go girl go!! Make your move and don't regret another minute! Do what's good for you/family. Sure it helps to have another "professional" vouch for you but don't forget to utilize an MD you've associated with or a co-worker, a former patient?....if management won't/can't recommend then pick whomever. will benefit you....use your imagination...all kinds of folks out there you've impressed...just do whatever's good for you...employers forget you as soon as your out the door...always always ask/check with someone prior to using them as a reference..common courtesy....good luck! You'll do just fine!!:) :)- Where have all the sign on bonuses gone?
:) :angryfire Because "they" realize that experienced nurses know the real poop and who better to take advantage of than NEW GRADUATES! Why pay those of us that know the way the system works and can really prove thats theres "no shortage" of nurses ...h#lls bells theres a ton of nurses out there that choose not to be subjected to the same BS thats been going on for years...THIS CRAP HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR OVER 30 YEARS! and guess what...nurses still don't know how to bargain for themselves the way they should! Hate to say it but I would love to see nurses unionize...we can't seem to do it by ourselves so lets get somebody in there that can produce for us!...15K for 2 yrs of licking their boots?? I don't think sooo....just my thoughts folks...I hope the next generation of nurses wise up big time and make the system lick their boots!! I really need to win the lottery.....thx for listening....- IM injections
:) When I've given 2-3 cc per hip my patients were always recumbent! Never standing and never seeing my "equiptment". I'd go vagal on seeing a 16 or 18 guage needle too! Common sense tells you to insure patient safety and keeping them upright is asking for trouble....esp when injecting more than 2 cc in hip or whatever....treat every pt as tho' they'll faint irregardless! They may want to be brave but common sense should take over....remind them that if they topple you may not be able to hold them etc....do whatever it takes to insure their and your safety....besides your the "mother" in this situation! Kill 'em w love!:):) An old and wise nurse...most of the time.....- Which hospital volunteer assignment should I ask for?
:) Good advice mattsmom81! You sound like a nicely seasoned person... May I ask where Texasville is in relation to Houston? I'm still learning about TX since moving here a few yrs ago...have a good one.....:)- private duty home health care
:) The last agency I worked for billed either the patient who in turn was reimbursed by their Ins. company or the insurance company paid after negotiating a charge(s) for services rendered. On admit the RN still filled out an OASIS but for info only...we did not follow medicare guidelines for private pays. If the private pay was HMO or PPO the agency case manager called for a PA# (prior auth) or reference # (used for billing purposes) and updates on pts progress every 7-10 days or so to case mgr of ins company. They in turn may request E-Z graphs or written/computer documentation which would assist them in justifyin more visits for x days etc...The agency made lots of $$ on private pays....hope this helps...:) :)- need advice
:) :) Welcome to the USA! If your totally so uncomfortable with LTCF bag it! On the other hand it could turn out to be a most gratifying experience for you! Remember you'll be in their shoes one of these years....Sure, it'll be hard work, just like all other nursing jobs...don't kid youself. It will present you with facts and I'm sure you'll be able to decide one way or the other if this is your time to stay or move on....in my 34 yrs, I've worked a number of positions and believe me when I grow up I'll know what I want to do???!! Take care, live, love and enjoy....later.......:) :)- N.M. is a great place...
:) RN-RD....where in northern NM if you care to divulge....Pilar, I just typed other postings on 3 different threads...take a gander...I cannot type anymore...time to go rest my brain...and fingers! Lots of great history in NM...just remember folks move at a much more slow pace in NM but the drivers are as crazy as any where else.....Enjoy!!:)- Shiprock Hospital, anesthesia
Brush up on Navaho ways and language....Buy all silver and turquoise while your there...See Mesa Verde ...maybe Chaco Canyon too...Have a great time! Eats lots of green chili and drink Blue Margaritas....water when in the sun tho'....take lots of sunscreen, the sun can be a killer up that high....don't forget White Sands! Send me chili!!!:) :)- New Mexico for me?
Hey Fergus! I moved to Houston 3 yrs ago after living in Alb for 20+ yrs... The sunsets are outstanding, the green chili and Blue Margaritas will spoil you and the skiing is great when it snows. Taos and Santa Fe definitely have the better slopes...Santa Fe... is more expensive to live there as a number of Hollywood stars have moved to the area but they have wonderful expensive restauran food. I believe St. Vincents Hosp in SF is unionized....nurses got ticked off a number of years ago and walked out...hooray for them...Taos much more small town atmosphere but if you like mountains, camping etc, its a great place! Taos has a small hospital...Lots of politics w hospitals in Alb esp between Reg Med Ctr and Pres....its in the history and no one wants to forget about it...well the "big boys" don't forget...hope I haven't scared you, NM really is a beautiful place to be in and such a different part of the world...want a real change?, go to Gallup, NM for a year. Btw my dad just told me St. Joes has reopened the West Mesa hospital (one of those smaller facilities and Pres is building a new hosp out on the mesa too....feel free to email me for mo'.... [email protected]...- New Grad moving to Albuquerque in December
:chuckle You guys are all to funny!! I moved to Houston 3 yrs ago after living in Albuquerque for 20+ years....Best things about NM is the "slow" paced attitude but thats NM and the green chili! Anaheim's just don't make it in Houston...I never did work the hospitals in Alb, did do Pres reviewing med records w the HMO tho', did Qual Med mid 80's, the PRO org and even medical supply sales. I agree, stay away from LL, and PRES (roll my eyes), UNMH is an excellent hospital as far as being a Level 1 trauma center and the residency program is rated at #2 or 3 I believe. Best place for a nurse to add to education. Also I'd recommend, well its not St. Joes since I left, someone bought the Sisters of Charity...Its something like St Joseph's Regional Medical Center??? That hospital had the best reputation of being the most "homey" type hospital....they have some of the best docs I think...they talk with you and not down at you....Dr. Chong, what a sweetie.... sniff...Gardunos on 4th St is best restaurant for New Mexican cuisine and Blue Margaritas..Lots of politics between all the hospitals....Pres and LL always changed management every few years, always scary and one of the reasons I never wanted to be involved w those systems...lots of good friendly people tho' and good food.... Hope this helps....later dudes/dudetts.....:)- Is TVI's nursing program respected?
- Grandfathering Nurses Question
:wink2: Sooo what happened with all the diploma grads in BC and Ontario? Was there a transitiion period of some sorts for them? Obviously you can tell I've not stayed abreast re: the nursing situation in Canada! I feel brain dead many nights...(and days occ):)- Grandfathering Nurses Question
"Better" is not the best choice of words to use. One is not better than the other, how about "appropriate" instead of "better"....And yes I realize that BSN is here to stay and its becoming the norm....foolish in my book. I know I'm predjudiced in feeling that 3 yr grads came away with a whole lot more clinical experience than others....Not to put anyone down!....just my experience with new grads...ok enough from me on this topic be4 I get into hot H2O...later.... :) :)- Foot care training
On the other hand I think your medicinal salve sounds great and I'll be emailing you for the receipe if its ok....:)- Foot care training
Unfortunately WOCN is for BSN's only and you have to have verification of 4000 hours of wound care within 5 yrs of taking the certification test....Unfortunate because they (WCON) are eliminating a large group of diploma nurses that I'm sure are more than capable of performing this type of care...such a poor and shameful decision!:angryfire- Is TVI's nursing program respected?
Hi Abby! I moved to Houston 3 yrs ago after living in Alb for 21 yrs....altho' I did not attend TVI a friend of mine did and she is now head of Hospice at Presbyterian Hosp. She worked hard as a AD grad and has done very well for herself. TVI has an excellent program for AD's....go for it girl! And enjoy the green chili while you're there...bty Garduno's has the best New Mexican cuisine...Enjoy!!:) :)- Foot care training
:) WOW!! I am so impressed with all the information thats been shared here and am equally impressed with you all and your success in creating a very much needed service. You've taken a need that isn't being met by others d/t lack of time or for whatever reason and capitalized on it. Your courage and digilence are an inspiration to all nurses that are sick of the system and want to make a change for themselves. Congratulations and I wish you all continued success!:) :)- Grandfathering Nurses Question
I have yet to decide what BSN's have over Diploma nurses (2 & 3 yr grads)... the "Grandfather" situation has been discussed and acted upon for over 30 years now...I hope as long as there are Diploma grads being taught to be "professionals" that the system does not throw us away...just because one has a degree on paper doesn't mean they provide better care....It was ridiculous back then, as it is today to assume a degree makes you a better nurse....why can't a nurse be a nurse w/o all the hype over a college degree??? :angryfire :angryfire And who cares about "one standard"? As long as there are "Diploma" nurses being cranked out for employment I hope the "BSN" craze gets dragged out for another 30+ years....No disrespect meant for any particular school of thought...A nurse is a nurse , especially if he/she passed state boards!!- Loss
My heart hurts for you and the family...its truly a tragedy...give yourself a break tho', not only are you a special person being a nurse, you are also a human with a big heart that sometimes fractures a bit...fractures heal with time and your strength will be so much stronger....Take care....we're here for you when needed....- Will I be able to become a nurse?
Really?...I wouldn't let someone RX me just for being positive from skin test & CXR neg....Theres a ton of people running around w + skin test...my experience is that those w + skin test have to get CXR too...thats all....- needing some advice...
I think thats a great idea to volunteer....Back in my hi school days I worked (w pay) as sort of an aide...making beds, passing meal trays, restocking linen closets, basically whatever was needed that I could do...I remember being a senior and working a Saturday evening applying cool compresses to a 6 y/o w a high fever, ya know the old days when we didn't have cooling mats etc... You'll certainly get an idea of what you might experience on down the road... Good luck!! - How do you get patients to give you a "very good?"
