nursing admission test

Has anyone taken the nursing admission test before taking any of the pre-req's? If so, how did it go? Were you accepted into the nursing program? I have been out of h.s. for 7 yrs. now and would like to know what my chances would be on getting a good score on a nursing admissions test once I have been accepted to a school. Btw, is there a website where I can see sample qstns. or can take a practice test?

You'll need to find out which test your school uses. Some use the NLN, some use the NET, some use their own test. There are a few other tests which I've seen mentioned here that some other schools use, too!

There must be more than one test, because I see it/them referred to by different names. We took the "PSB." To this day, I do not know what the initials stand for!!!

ARCO puts out a great prep book. I saw several copies yesterday at Half Price Books (maybe there is one near you?) or they can be bought new at Barnes and Noble, and surely other bookstores.

I had to retake my prereqs because they were more than five years old. (I'm not sayin' how many more years than five!). I took the PSB before I retook anything.

If you enjoy math (like, arithmetic) and if you have a grasp of basic science, you may do well. If you are not permitted to retake the exam (and you can find this out from the nursing school administration office), then take practice tests someplace else and prepare for the admissions test, then take it after your prereqs are done.

Hope that helps! (BTW, I'm not genius, but I like math and science--I was in the 97th percentile or above on my PSB, except for --ack!--reading comprehension, where I placed solidly in the low 80's. I hadn't applied to school, and I actually got a call from the then-director, asking me to apply. Stranger than fiction!)

You need to find out the admission requirements for the schools you want to apply to. I took the NLN before I had taken any pre-req's, and that was back in 1993. I just wanted to see how I would do. I did really well, but new that most schools wanted to see people with at least some college credits under their belt if they were not right out of HS, so I started taking some, got side-tracked having a few more babies (LOL!), then started in seriously about a year and a half ago. It helped quite a bit, and then I took the NLN again in January of this year, since most places want the NLN with scores that are "current" within the past few years.

There are a lot of great study books, and you can find used ones on Ebay also. I think most pre-nursing entrance exams focus on basics, like English, Math and Science. There is one school I applied to that if you've taken the SAT's within the past 2 years you don't have to take the NLN, so I think they are all pretty similar. They just want an overall picture of where you would place.

I'll have to look at those books. The schools I am interested in are looking for more than just the admission test scores, so it probably would do me good to take some pre-reqs first. I think I'm just getting too excited about starting school :rotfl:

Hi Sonja, I've completed all the admission requirements for my school and next week will take what my school calls the "TEAS Test" - Test of Essential Academic Skills". It's the admission test they give to anyone in Health related fields. Similar to the NET, but more to it than that. I purchased the study guide for the test a few months ago - it costs about $35.00, but well worth it. It includes sample questions, science, medical terminology, A& P and helpful hints on studying, etc. I wouldn't want to take this test without at least going over this book a few times just to get an idea of what type of questions you'll be given and what type of information you need to know. well i wanted to go the community college of philadelphia, i dont know what kind of test they will be give out for RN program.

because am so nervous, and i dont know math all i dont know if this is a good idea of becoming a nurse or choose something else to do.

:)please help me i wanted to take the first step of becoming a rn because i was a MA just graduated could not even find a place to do my extern so i dont know if doin rn is a good idea?

PSB stands for Psychological Services Bureau - which is the company that writes the tests. The offer 4 tests:

Aptitude for Practical Nursing Examination

Health Occupations Aptitude Examination

Reading Comprehension Examination

Registered Nursing School Aptitude Examination

They have some practice tests that you can download and try. On the PSB website, click on the link labeled "Student Applicant: Resources for Test Taking"

I just took the PSB on Wednesday. I should find out how I did in about two weeks!
