The Needs and Expectations of the Mature/Experienced Nurse

Nurses Activism

Published

The Commission on Workplace Advocacy, a branch of the ANA, is seeking to obtain information regarding the needs and expectations of the mature/experienced nurse (ages 40 years and older) in all work environment settings.

The goal of the Commission is to obtain knowledge of actions that can be taken to retain the mature/experienced nurse in the work force and to find ways to aid the nurse in his/her transition from employment to retirement. This survey takes just a few minutes to complete:

I sent an email to the contact person listed in the survey explaining why I didnt answer question #24 - the one asking if non-monetary incentives like a better parking spot would help with retention. Not for me it wouldnt, but a non-monetary incentive that might make a difference would be guaranteed safe staffing ratios.

Heres her reply:

Thank you so much for your response. Your feedback is tremendous. I must say that when we did the pilot survey that some people did include the items listed in question 24, thus the reason for those choices. I appreciate your taking your time to respond to me with an explanation. This information will serve to guide Workplace Advocacy as we develop products and services for all nurses.

Thank you,

I will do as you suggested -jt. Couple of things I want to mention. Question number 22,23 and 24 use the word postposing. Do you think they mean postponing? I wrote and asked them that. Also, I think LPNs should have a survey for themselves. Nice that you recieved a reply to your email.
