If you currently work OT for time and one half pay will you continue to work the hours for straight pay? What do you think of the new OT legislation and how it will effect nursing? What do you think of the exemptions for male dominated professions? ie, Police officers, firefighters and EMTs.

Nope, and they better not try to mandate me either !!! I will refuse to stay and walk with my feet to another job.

Sometimes I wonder am I getting paid straight time for overtime work. For example, I worked a total of 105 hours and my hours were broken down like this: 96 hours regular, 9 hours overtime. This is an example of how we get paid overtime at my workplace. Is this legal? I would appreciate some feedback from anyone who has knowledge of overtime laws. Thank you

I am a nurse, I have been for over 12 years, I have taken care of families experiencing the loss of their children, I have made hand and foot molds of dead infants, dressed them, bathed them and taken pictures of them for their parents, so believe me I know the stresses that a nurse faces in their job.

I can have a bit of a morbid sense of humor at times too. In fact until my own child took a gun and blew his brains out I may have even made the mistake of joking about suicide attempters surviving and them not being able to get it right.

I hope to God you never face the grief that comes with the loss of a child. And mourning is not a stage, it never ends, it gets different but it never ends.

I didn't ask him to change his quote, I asked him to consider it, and I certainly don't think this is all about me. I am not a new poster, and I was not angry with that person at all, I thought very carefully about what I was saying because I didn't want them to think I was angry. But I admit I am angry with you.

I may regret posting this because I have found that if I respond people like you, you will just keep on attacking but I just can't let it go, you touched a bit of a nerve. Guess your not one of those warm caring nurses you mentioned.

Please take care. I mean that sincerely.

Nurses are often accused of having a bit of a morbid sense of humor...we get this way as we cope with the stresses in our worklife. This is one reason we come here to vent/share with other nurses...who understand.

We can all tell when a loss is still in mourning stage and everyone here empathizes with loss and grief. As a wise poster points out to us here however, 'it ain't always all about me'.

It seems just a tad innappropriate for a new poster to dictate other BB members change their siggies. It is also, IMO, quite unfair to project one's personal pain and anger on innocent others....

There are hundreds of warm caring nurses on this BB...many of whom would be happy to be a kind ear and caring friend to someone who reaches out appropriately. Just some food for thought and please take care...and I do mean that sincerely.

Thank you so very much for you words of comfort, they are very much appreciated.

Melissa, my sympathy, too.

I can understand why it got to you, but I have never lost a child. I think that would never go away.

Enough of a hijack.

I believe there is another bill that has passed the House, concerning this legislation. This would reverse the threat to overtime involving nurses. Of course, the President has threatened to veto it.

Good ol' Bush - make the rich richer off the backs of the poor and middle-class

Are they CRAZY? Heck NO I wouldn't work OT for straight pay. Why bother? I don't do it for my health or because I just can't get enough of nursing for that day...

:angryfire :angryfire :angryfire No, I wont work overtime for straight pay...you would have to be crazy...I love my job and all, but I dont think nurses get paid enough on straight pay, and now he's taking away our OT, and, yes, I blame Bush...I understand that it was a bill and argued, etc. but Bush, the current president, has the power to veto, and he didn't...so I blame him...Ya know, my dad said that it took many workers a lot of blood, sweat, tears, headaches, and pain to pass the OT laws...and Bush did away with it in one stroke of a pen, and it wont even matter to him...its not like he's trying to make a house payment, or pay daycare, or a car payment, or send a kid to college......I think Bush just set our country back about 40 years.....am very, very disappointed in his term as president........ :o

Kerry wouldn't fix the problem...And, although Bush isn't my favorite, if Kerry were in or does get in, I am absolutely certain we might be speaking Arabic in the very near future. That is why terroist factions sanction him for president.Shudder...

There are cases when a nurse should welcome working overtime for straight pay like emergency situations or national disaster, but in regular cases....NO WAY!!! We should be compensated on what is stipulated originally on the contract or employment agreement we signed, lest you signed to be compensated that way in the first place which I think no one will ever attempt to do!:rotfl:
