What do you think of nursing soliciting at work for things like Mary Kay, and other businesses like that? Is it appropriate to do so during work time?

We have a per diem nurse in our department. Her main gig is Mary Kay and she supplements her income with nursing. She has recruited people at work, and is constantly promoting May Kay while working, hopefully not with patients, but most certainly at the nurses station.

Some people are annoyed by it, others like it and have signed on. What do you think?

You are all a bunch of selfish, self absorbed, crab apples. I buy something from every kid selling something. It is a rule, lol. I make donations for all celebrations and condolence gifts. My life is fuller for contributing to the happiness of others.

Was this tongue-in-cheek? Hope so. If serious, I'm glad you have enough disposable income to humor a list of kids selling a ridiculous assortment of expensive junk, and to contribute ot every "cause" of every kind.

Me, I have to watch my spending more carefully (so that one day I can retire and spend money on a ridiculous assortment of expensive junk for my future grandkids!!!!).

You may be able to buy something for every child with your NP income.. not in my case and many others in this forum... and send me your address so I can send you all the donation requests from all my co-workers!

It was an exam room at the hospital. The doctor seemed very surprised it was there, so I don't think he is the one who put it up.

I'm amazed at the number of people who have no problem with solicitation in an exam room.

I'd have mentioned something to the doctor but I don't think it's a patient's place to remove things from the walls. That's a boundary overstep, IMO.

I found out today that the nurse has been soliciting patients and families as Mary Kay customers. A trusted tech overheard a transaction.

Extremely unprofessional, and likely against hospital policy.

Nurses at my unit will leave tupperware catalogues for example in our break room and just say "See Jane if interested" for example, or donation containers with an explanation. I would feel very uncomfortable if they were doing anything more than this.

She needs to be reported and shut down. Inappropriate!

Soliciting to patients is just wrong. They are in a vulnerable state and may feel obligated to buy because they are worried it will affect their care if they do not. Please report it for the patients sake.

I'm thankful that my husband's office allows sales----its the only place I can get personal delivery service for my annual Thin Mint fix!
