Nurses Rock in 2014 and Beyond

The new year 2014 is swiftly approaching us. This piece is a reminder that our chosen profession is vital to society's health and safety from the cradle to the grave. In addition, we would like to thank all readers for making this site the powerhouse that it is today.

Nurses Rock in 2014 and Beyond

Isn't it funny how quickly time flies? New Year's Day 2013 seems as if it took place yesterday! The year 2014 is approaching us at the speed of light, and by the time some of our fabulous members and curious lurkers get around to reading this piece, the new year will already have arrived.

Many of our forum members are nurses with differing levels of experience, proficiency and activity, while others are nursing students who eagerly aspire to join our ranks. Some members are nurses' aides and medical assistants, whereas the remainder of our readers consist of inquisitive non-healthcare folks who might be considering a career in the nursing profession.

No matter what your reason may be for visiting these forums day after day, the owner and staff of Allnurses.com would like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts. After all, the members and lurkers are the main ingredients that have made the website materialize with harmony over the years. It is your questions, comments, unadulterated honesty, discussions, expertise, and advice that bestow a special quality upon Allnurses.com that other nursing forums cannot seem to replicate. Because of you, we have emerged as the largest nursing site on the world wide web. You all, the diverse blend of readers, are the essential components that make us what we are.

In addition, take a moment to reflect on what you do. As nurses and healthcare workers, our work is crucial to the continued functioning of the well-being of society as a whole. The healthcare system in the United States would be in shambles if we were to remove all 3 million+ registered nurses and all 750,000+ licensed practical / vocational nurses from the landscape. And if you are a student, your future career in nursing is of the utmost significance.

Nurses are there for patients at every point in the circle of life, from the beginning until the very end. It is the labor and delivery nurse who provides nursing care to mothers as new human lives enter this world. It is the hospice nurse who provides dignified nursing care to those who will soon be leaving this world. It is the many other types of nurses in varied settings (postpartum, med/surg, pediatric, school, ICU, ER, clinic, psychiatric, LTC, prison, parish, occupational health, doctors office, etc.) who deliver nursing care throughout the different stages of life.

As a nurse, you are absolutely necessary because healthcare facilities exist to provide nursing care. Hospitals, birthing centers, nursing homes, home health agencies, hospices, and other types of healthcare-related entities would not function without nurses who serve as the backbone. From the cradle to the grave, the nurse is the professional who positively impacts outcomes through therapeutic communication, accurate assessments, medication administration, close monitoring, appropriate intervention, patient education, fierce advocacy, procedural skills, and an array of other aspects of nursing care.

In summary, we'd like to thank you for what you do (or aspire to do) for a living. We'd also like to thank you for visiting the forums because your unique voices of reason and wisdom are the features that have made Allnurses.com special for nearly two decades.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. And happy new year!
