Hi, I was recently informed that I had to have my picture taken for a "new project" at our hospital. Nsg admin is gonna take all staff nurses pics and then put them up in the rooms of the patients that nurse is assigned to for the shift. I find that a little bit strange myself. We are a small community hospital (25 beds including ICU and OB) and everyone works 12 hr shifts, so it's not like we r continually changing assignments, staff, etc. Does anyone else have anything like this where they work? we also have the white boards with r name, title, doc, etc in every room.
:hhmth:NO, that's why I didn't want my photo out there-- you know, livestock discrimination, and all
Actually, that photo reminds me of the goats in TX that climb trees all the time....be driving down the road minding my own business , and come upon a tree full of goats, just munching leaves and watching the cars go by.....kinda creepy
I want to see a picture of goats in a tree! That must be quite a scary sight!
don't laugh. my hospital wants to put a digital picture of their nurse for the day on their flat screen -- as one of their channel choices.
are you kidding me! that can't be for real!
one time they took pics of some nurses on a unit just out of the blue, didn't even let them freshen up and then had them on the wall, and there was a nurse that kept taking hers down and they kept putting it back. eventually that gimmick passed and the pics were taken down for good! or maybe there was too much turnover to keep up with all the new pics!
it's too invasive, too much like big brother 1984! if they want my pic then i want to get a makeup and hairstylist and professional photo shoot! let's pull out all the stops! they can bill it, feel like a model for the day! haha
I don't like this.. of course having a customer service background to go along with my nursing background, I have to admit that I DO NOT think that a nurse/ consumer relationship is the one we should be looking at either... so don't get me started... I am planning this long rant for a thesis... lol
This thread makes me laugh. Not the idea of implementing the photos, but of the mass hysteria and paranoia. Lets face it, if you want anonymity, nursing is not the career for you. They know your name, can easily look up your license statues, thus finding out where you live (at least in my state). You (as well as anyone) can be googled. This is the world we live in.
The perceived benefit of it I'd what we should be looking at. When you walk into the room, the Pt can easily identify you as their nurse. Something that I believe is a huge problem. If I were a patient, I would want to know who my nurse is. And no, sadly we can't rely on every member of the healthcare team identifying themselves.

The "did" is what is frightening.Only half-kidding.
Did you actually see the husband, or might he have been stuffed, sitting in his rocker at tea...? "I'm coming Norman!"

Yeah. I met him :) He was actually pretty nice (kinda quiet, but I'm guessing SHE got the last word on anything ). No buzzards circling -- another good thing about TX- can't just toss a body- something will circle it in droves, and lead law enforcement straight to it
When I'd see buzzards circling out at the drug/alcohol rehab place- on many acres in the country- I'd tell the tech to bury the ornery ones a bit deeper next time. He'd get the
look ...
Xtrn, looking at your picture here reminds me of something. There was a unit director I knew who didn't like to have her picture taken. She glued a picture of Tom Cruise over the picture on her badge. She said no one ever even mentioned it to her! Her name on her bad was "They" as in "they did it." No one mentioned that either.
Maybe we could all get animal pictures or cartoons to stand in for us and post those in our patients' rooms!
I don't think having pictures of nurses in the room is a big deal, frankly if the pt wants s/he can just take one with theier phone and you would never know. I'm sure nurses who work in L&D/mother&baby have their photos taken all the time.
Agreed. As long as the official picture is a reasonable facsimile of the way I really look, I'm ok with it. No mug shot-type pictures, please!
The other day, I swear a patient was taking a picture of me with his phone....
