Nurses and their pens

You know how you have that one favorite pen that fits just right in your hand and writes so smoothly? You get very attached to it....and then, much to your dismay it seems to grow legs and disappears. Be prepared by stocking up so you'll always have a backup.

Pens are to nurses what cigarettes are to prison inmates

Last time I 'smoked' a pen was in the third grade; very sophisticated, doncha know, to hold a pen like cigt. and 'puff' on it!

People would steal a dead rat where I work. I am so tired of CNA's asking if I have a pen they can borrow that I've told a few other co-workers lately that the next time they ask, whether I have any more or not, I'm going to say NO. They're coming to work, they know they're going to have to write stuff (not as much as us nurses, but they do need a pen), and they should remember to bring a pen, duh.

And as an aside, a young DOCTOR in my facility recently not only borrowed my pen, but my stethoscope! And I practically had to chase her down to get both back before she left! Can you say 'unprepared'???

1) the comments are always so much better than the actual cartoon. 😂😂

2) I'm a fan of the Dr. Grip in fine point black and a metal refillable G2 in blue medium point, both purchased in nursing school. I still have them, and woe betide anyone who gets near one. They're rarely out of my pocket unless something random has occurred (labeling a specimen tag and then interrupted, etc) I've got a couple of nice Cross pens also but I rarely take them to work.

3) I too color code with sharpies....

4) I had my steth engraved with some interesting weirdness and ordered a rather unusual color combo from Littman. I've busted a couple docs trying to make off with it...but somehow it always finds its way home.....

5) Bic ink does smell fabulous. When I was a kid, my aunt and uncle owned a stationary store that was lovely. I used to wander the aisles to my heart's content when I stayed with them. Strangely, slowly perusing the aisles of office supply stores is incredibly nostalgic and therapeutic for me. Staples, Office Depot, the little private ones...I love them all!! I love school supply time. I've probably spent enough on paper, pens, ink, art supplies, etc to pay off a student loan or two. ;) yeah, I've got issues!!

My mother and I used to go into stationery and office supply stores and practically drool over all the diff. kinds of paper, notebooks, pens, etc.

It was heaven!

Bic Atlantis black medium point retractable. Slim barrel, smooth ink, gel cushioned grip. My favorite plus a 4 color for coding my brains. They stay in my pocket and I rarely lose one. I keep a spare of both in my lunch bag in case I run out of ink. Best pen ever.

This in blue. Let's guy buy some of those 5 packs. I'll give you the blacks, you give me the blues, and we can keep our reds.

I lose pens everyday at work so I just use the cheap paper mate ones that the front desk stocks. My record was losing one 5 minutes into my shift. I usually bring 3 pens to work to have a back up but usually when I lose a pen, I find another lying around that no one claims so I take it. It all works out. I don't know if it's the same one I lost prior or I stole someone's pen but I always ask if it's anyone's pen before I pocket it. 😉

I covered my pens with scrapbook paper so I can confidently say to someone "you still have my pen", a recognize when a pen on the desk is mine. I also sometimes have freebie pens on hand to loan out which I don't worry about getting back.

Specializes in M/S, LTC, Corrections, PDN & drug rehab.

I thought you guys were crazy.

Until I picked up a Bic Atlantis. Ooo writes soo smooth! I love it! Then my mother kept stealing them. I finally had to hide them. :|
