Some nurses are outraged over a quiet move by the U.S. Department of Labor that could strip registered nurses and other health professionals nationwide from overtime pay.

Interesting article.

It's no wonder nurses are leaving the profession in droves.

This is so outrageous, so unbelievable, I don't even know what to say. Who would have thought that this could happen inThe US?

How about we do the same to every other profession, such as policemen and firemen...That is horrible.....So unfair, and once again, nurses are inappropriately targeted....If they don't want to pay overtime, then hire appropriately or pay appropriately...Minute that actually happens is the minute I leave nursing behind, however much I love it...

This Labor Department Plan not only affects the medical field, but I believe all professions. I currently work for the federal government and it will affect us as well. This will most certainly make people not stay anytime extra past their departure time.

I think every nurse should see this!

They should come to this website to get informed. That story has been posted in at least two threads here in the past 2 months ("Overtime Pay In Jeopardy in the US") & readers here have been posting discussions & contacting their elected leaders about it for weeks already:

Most staff nurses rely on the overtime $$$ to make ends meet. And, if "overtime" ceases to be, will staff nurses be required to work whatever amounts of hours the NM wants (50, 60 hours)??? What recourse does a staff nurse have in a right-to-work or at-will non-unionized institution?:o
