What is your thought on nurses who only join the profession for financial gains?
I get a kick out of people who believe nurses make "good" money. For the level of responsibility nurses have, we are severely underpaid. Many nurses themselves don't realize it because many women are taught to devalue themselves and their work.
Hence why I am furthering my education. As an NP, I will see a significant jump in salary, and I don't care if people judge me...judge away!

You are aware that your salary jump will not be commensurate with what you will now be responsible, right?

I agree with you on the first part . Many people assume that nurse make big money . I guess everyone has their defintion of big money, but to me I think we are under paid .
I also believe we are severely underpaid. Bedside Nurses make the difference. I dream of a world where nurses value themselves more and more.
Where nurses say “NO”. Where nurses say “ENOUGH IS ENOUGH”. A world where nurses have nurses backs just like MDs have MDs backs. A more professional nursing. A nursing where we demand higher salaries and better benefits and treatment.
I don’t think that world is far away as more millennials and younger and younger mentalities enter the field.

I was with you until you said it would happen because "younger and younger mentalities enter the field."
Um. No.

Um. Explain? Lol...
Firstly, you’re twisting my words. I didn’t say it would happen BECAUSE of younger and younger mentalities. I simply said that world isn’t too far away as younger and younger mentalities enter the field. Meaning younger mentalities are definitely a factor.
Some but not all older nurses are perfectly complesecant with the current state of nursing, their upbringing differs greatly than the upbringing of the incoming generations. Incoming generations value their time and tend to tolerate a lot less abuse and unfairness. Life may be unfair but it doesn’t mean we should be complescant and promote unfairness. Right? Stand up and make changes.
Younger generations have their downfalls like all generations did but their strengths are their willingness to refuse bullcrap and identify unfair situations. Demand fair compensation and so forth.

Then that seems to be more of a managerial issue rather than monetary motivation.
