But you are younger so your insurance should be less!

I'm self employed, which means I can claim on taxes and get most of my money back....most employee plans are pre-taxed. So in turn based on my taxes, it IS less...plus I get at least 60% of my money back; I did when I was self employed...it didn't go back to no one but me.

But the reality is that most large employers already self-insure and only have a company administer their plan to save money. Big insurance is not providing that much care anymore! Also when companies self-insure they can skirt all the state laws that commerical health insurers have to provide. Self insured only have to honor federal laws so the employees get inferior insurance coverage!

And some employers pick crappy insurance that does not fit their employees...I rather give up my insurance and pay out of pocket in turn for higher wages and my insurance money coming back to me during tax time. I work with a company that I can do that with...at least with the ACA I can do that; and because there is no pre-existing and age clause, I can pick what I want and not get stuck with what my employer chooses. To me, I can get the employer's insurance with the savings and what works for me.

Unfortunately now health systems have a scapegoat (ACA) when they want to cut staff and expenses. Every place I've ever worked has always been looking at ways to reduce staff and keep more money. Were I work now they are seriously decreasing the number of unit clerks by making nurses that don't look busy enter orders and such. It won't be long before hospitals become even more unsafe.

Totally agree. Whether ACA will on its own merit cause layoffs or not is moot for us....and I am not sure why people keep debating that. Because we all know if hospitals can lay off the higher paid nurses and say it is ACA they will do it.

I live in an FHA funded housing apt. Since the new government regulations have taken effect, we (all seniors and disabled people who live on fixed incomes) are now being charged for anything that's damaged. My dishwasher panel (a tiny strip that comes with adhesive on the back of it) was replaced today. I have been charged $36.81 for that thing. Here we are, the poor people now paying for items we did't have to pay for in the past since this president took office all because a budget hasn't yet been put in place. I can't stand Mr Obama or his wife. The sooner they get out the better.

1. This is problem that started a long time ago, decades before Obama.

2. The president doesn't set policies at your facility. he has probably never heard of it. He has nothing to do with it.

3. The President doesn't control the budget. Congress does.

4. Really, the President of the United States has nothing to do with repairs of your home. Especially his wife.

how dare you?! That's President Obama to you. Not Mr.

i am so sick of ppl pointing the finger at him for everything. I doubt that bill you got was sent by him. It reminds me of all the people blaming ppl oversees for "taking our jobs". These ppl were "given our jobs" by ppl here. Ppl r downright disrespectful.

Well, I can sympathize ... The day Bush was put into office by the SCOTUS I made a vow that I would never refer to him as "P------ Bush," and, to this day, I still haven't and never will. "Mr. Obama" is nowhere near as bad as a lot of the names (epithets) you hear used to refer to him. At least it's civil.

ia. i don't care whether it is "Obamacare" or greedy corporations causing layoffs and reduced hours and pay freezes. All I care about is making $$ and putting a roof over my head and being able to provide for myself.

Many moderate Americans feel similarly and are complacent about voting as well. This allows the extremists to elect the officials who decide what is important for the country.

no kidding. i always vote, from local elections to federal, and i get involved with campaign efforts when there's an issue i feel strongly about.

i'm starting to feel more than slightly disillusioned though, almost as if elections are bought and paid for by corporate giants before they even begin.

my point is that arguing back and forth about whether the ACA or the corporations are to blame won't change anything and won't magically create jobs and bring up salaries or improve working conditions.

You feel this way because it is unfortunately true. These two parties work for special interests, not the American people. Maybe a I am more jaded than I should be, but I feel that any Republican or Democrat who makes it to the national stage has so many obligations to the money sources that got them there, that we are just an afterthought. One only needs to look at medicare part D which inexplicably tied the country's hands in negotiating lower drug prices to know that they don't work for us. Who does that? Someone who is working for the pharamceutical companies and not the people who elected them, that is who. It is only going to get worse with the supreme court decisions on campaign contributions that have come down. My vote in the next election may be solely based on trying to avoid any more conservative "activist" judges being appointed to the Suprem Court.

exactly. what can be done to protect healthcare workers when we're up against zillions of dollars in bribes? we'd need 1930's-style unions for a start, and sadly i can't imagine that happening in today's climate.
