If increasingly people think it's OK to treat nurses like dog s***, why wouldn't students like me just go into other professions like stock broker?

First, a slightly cliché, but not untrue reason-- because you want to help people! Seriously, though I believe the person who planned this event is an outlier. When something that dumb happens, the source is normally made aware of it, even if they can't comprehend what all the fuss is about.

I'd like to think the pendulum will swing back toward respect, which is an irony, as most people believe us oldsters were treated like handmaidens, indentured servants, etc. In my case that was never true. That can only happen if there are enough good people choosing the profession. For all it's warts, it still offers an unprecedented variety of specialties, and more recently, the opportunity for Advanced Practice degrees and certifications.

I hope they sue and are handsomely compensated

My impression from the statements made by the INA (union) is that their "complaint" is not a legal complaint, but a petition. I found the union's statements strangely subdued and rather odd, considering what they put those nurses through.

This is clearly a "Sensitivity Training" to show staff what it's like to be on the receiving end of care. Making someone wait to use the bathroom, putting patients on guerneys in the hallways, exposed to those walking by are just a couple of reasons NOT to go to an emergency room. I've been a nurse for a very long time and I get it-there is not enough staff for 1:1 care for every patient but when you have to use the bathroom, 5 minutes can seem like 5 hours. When you can't see or hear very well, it seems the whole world is ignoring you. I think sensitivity training is a good thing. Those who actually try to get something out of it will learn something, those that don't, will never have the sensitivity and compassion enough to continue in the nursing field.

Are you implying that nurses purposely let pt's suffer ??? That we are letting them just sit in whatever and they cant see and hear? Don't you think we already know that? How stupid does management think we are ( dont answer that, I KNOW mgmt thinks were all stupid and lazy pieces of sht.)

But anyhow, lets see, how does one address multiple pt needs concurrently? Hmmmm MORE STAFF.

won't happen. So you management people are beating an imaginary dead horse by punishing nurses for their "lack of sensitivity/ sympathy"

All it takes is one or two pt's to c/o not getting toileted soon enough. or whatever c/o. the fact that I was tied up at the time with something more important at the time( oh, maybe pushing IV metoprolol for example) that nurses are blamed.

So glad I'm done with this profession, which is being ruined and corrupted by greed and "customer satisfaction." If there is ever an uptick in the economy nurses will leave in droves. The pendulum WILL swing the other way - it's only a matter of time. Then the administrators can perform patient care. We'll see how "satisfied" everyone is then!

Yes, sadly it isn't even about the patients anymore. Money, greed and Press Ganey are the important things. They don't care if the patients are well taken care of as long as they, their family, neighbors, or their third cousin's great nephew don't complain. Then they come down on the nurses' heads.

Wow, I applied to Presence hospital before, that is scary. I would refuse to drink any water; I extreme case, I could just pee on the floor; no kidding. No one abuses me.

THIS is why i left bedside nursing.

I'm no expert, but not allowing someone to urinate....isn't that a violation of the Geneva Convention?

Presumably those RNs were not prisoners of war or civilians under foreign military occupation. Let's not be hyperbolic.

Their lawyers probably felt it wouldn't win in court for whatever reason. Also, it costs them money to go to court, if it is something that only affects a small group, they may not think it feasible in their legal budget to fight every case in court, as opposed to something that affects the membership as a whole. I'm not saying anything pro or anti union. This is just the business end of it.
