we can't afford it

I don't think we can afford NOT to have it. The people I know who have insurance have huge deductibles and 80/20 coverage (and that 20 can kill you). Also it's really sad to see how the uninsured are treated by healthcare workers.

Yes, I'm thrilled the bill passed. Our Government (and system for passing reform) may be just as broken as our healthcare system is, so NOTHING is going to be perfect. We have to work with what we've got and continue to try to move in a general direction of PROGRESS (that means some things you like in a bill will always come with some things you don't like. Just like some things you do like in an elected leader with come with some things you may not be as thrilled with). Thank you, President Obama, for the forward progress towards healthcare reform.

Even if the ONLY thing that comes out of this bill is: no exclusion for insurance coverage based upon pre-existing conditions -- we will have done something good for American's Healthcare. I have had cancer. My mom has MS. My dear friend's daughter has Spina Bifida. Why should we die from lack of $$ to pay our medical bills, while fighting diseases we did not bring upon ourselves? It's just wrong. The bill is not perfect. It is expensive. But I believe whole heartedly, it is a step in the right direction.

I am afraid of this bill. I believe it will lower the quality of health care while pushing up the cost. In NJ, charity care is nearly nonexistent, and medicare only pays a fraction of the cost. The Gov. is already saying that they will save money lowering reimbursements. I agree that something had to be done, but not this. There is no tort reform, little to prevent fraud, and too much garbage that shouldn't be there.

I would have more respect for the bill if it wasn't forced upon us. We weren't even allowed to see it until right before it went to the vote. I still wouldn't like it, but I wouldn't think it should be shot at dawn.

I answered "not sure"..I have not read all 2074 pages. I am curious as to how many Congress members have. What do they care anyway? They, along with their families, have optimum free health care for life.

I have this reaction :uhoh21: when I read that some posters support the bill for the sole reason that reform is necessary..yes reform is necessary, but all reform is not necessarily good reform.

I am really confused..I remember Obama saying that those of us that have health insurance will see lowered premiums d/t the bill. Well now I have heard they will be raised to accomodate new clients that insurance companies are forced to accept and will lose money on. Furthermore, so-called "cadillac insurance plans" will be taxed to death..well I have bad kidneys, and invest in the premium plan my hospital offers, is that a "cadillac plan"? If so, that is a disincentive and I will drop to the next lowest plan.

You call $605,000,000 (2010 est) 'nonexistent'?

The Health Care bill is a major boost to NJ.

New Jerseyans will no longer have to fund charity care for the uninsured.

It will help create jobs.

It will help decrease taxes.

Yes, some parts of the bill could be improved but as a whole it's a good start.

I wonder how many of our lawmakers actually read this bill before voting for it. It seems more political than in the best interest of the people.

There are approximately 46 million uninsured or underinsured people in our country, many who receive no healthcare at all due to the cost. If all our citizens are insured, disease detection and preventative care they can receive because they can afford going to a doctor, could ultimately decrease costs.

The bill is not ideal, but I cannot see how this country can call itself great when 1/6th of the population cannot get the healthcare they need.

I think it has already turned into a political discussion, argument or debate. ;)

I'd like to point folks in the direction of the US Politics Forum on allnurses-central to discuss, argue, and debate as there are many active forums going there that are doing just that.

Interesting results so far. I like that you linked it to Facebook . . .. .some of my nurse friends who are not members have weighed in.

I voted yes. I don't think the bill is anything close to perfect, but it does move us in the right direction. I am not happy with the sausage making that was done on the democratic side just to get the votes to pass it, but at least they did something. If it hadn't passed, it would never see the light of day again, thats what the party of no :clown:'s were hoping for. I think Obama is very much a realist, and knew he had to compromise to get something through congress. What was so amazing was all the disinformation being circulated by the opposition since they had very little in the way of a rational argument against it. Death panels, give me a break.
