Nurse Week Goodies, funniest ones you've seen

Nurses General Nursing

As I sit here placing mutiple job applications I've been thinking back to when I worked the floor as an LPN.

Nurse Week, the one week other than holidays that you will see yummy goodies given to the nurses. I'm not talking about the token stuff the hospital does, though seeing your CEO pushing an ice cream cart at 3AM so the night shift can get the ice cream goodies the day shift got is kinda funny.

The funniest/best I've ever seen was when I worked in AZ. Each shift got a huge cheesecake sampler from the Cheesecake Factory. Very, very yummy. The funny part: it was from the Cardiology Group  We couldn't decide if they were just being nice or creating future patients LOL

The healthiest was from an Ortho doc at a hospital in KY. Sent all three shifts a huge box of fruit shipped up from Florida. Had the juiciest pears I've ever tasted and oranges that were actually sweet.

Anyone else? Remember, funny/yummy/cool stuff please :D:yeah:

This one would be totally inappropriate (especially in my unit), but it's still kinda funny:

Maybe, slightlymental_RN. However, it does confirm my belief that nursing does drive a person to drink!

Our sister unit last year for Nurses Week was the GI clinic. Along with everything else, we all got samples of pink lemonade flavored Metamucil.

Nurses' Week used to be a really big deal and we got all kinds of goodies. Now we get a ticket for a free lunch in the cafeteria which the cashiers refuse to honor because there's no date on it or the only day you can use it is the day they're serving hot dogs and peas and carrots. Or the ever exciting ICE CREAM PARTY when each nurse is allowed a little cup of vanilla and a wooden stick to eat it with. Last year we got really nice backpacks (XXXXX Nurses' Week 2010). Week after that everybody in the building had 'em even housekeeping and lab. Guess they work hard too....

This past Nurses week last year at my place of employment reeked of cheapness and won the award for tacky! All of the nurses received a coupon for a free Frosty from Wendys that was expired, we live in a resort town so we also got maps for all of the tourist attractions. However the CNAs received $25 Visa giftcards!! Oh and the cafeteria made us sandwiches that sat out for hours in our DONs office. When she called me in to get mine, I told no way was I going to get food poisoning. We are hoping for much better this year!! Mainly, I am grateful to have a job!!

Funny to hear about your gifts and your complaints-- I work in Australia and we have never received anything, not even a pen!

"Bad news everyone, we cannot do anything for nurse's week this year because it is not in the budget". "However, I'd like to ask all of you if you could donate even a dollar for the Administrator's "going away" gift since he's leaving in a month"....quoth my megalomaniac DON last year.

I got lots of cheap goodies and some good considerate gifts while I was in the USA. Where I live now they didn't give nurses' week a passing thought, but we have a superb manager. I wouldn't trade her in for a 9-5 job in a dermatologists office.

for nurses week last year we got a bottle of water with 2 little packets of crystal lite tied to it! (cheap!!!) how ever for christmas this year we all got fleece jacket witht he company and facility name on it!

Every year........same thing, different color......tee shirt with companys logo, so we can "wear it on causual friday".......nice since there's no pockets and what nurse can work without pockets?? And you know we're all just dyin' to wear our company logo shirt out on the town for their free promo :)

I've never worked anywhere that didn't do something for all shifts during nurse week. Granted the free massages and CEU's were during the day. The gifts from the hospital were usually cheap and tacky, but one year each unit got a unit specific sweatshirt. Xmas most places I worked gave you a frozen turkey. Funny one year, years ago when my mom was a CNA we both brought home turkeys. Yep 2 15 pound birds for a family of 5 LOL
