Visa Screen Certificate is required by all foreign nurses wishing to obtain a green card to work in the US, as well as any type of temporary work permit, such as the Nafta TN Visa for those from Canada and Mexico.

It requires that you pass either the NCLEX-RN or the CGFNS exam, as well as the series of English exams if you are not exempt from them.

The CGFNS exam is only required now in about five states, and rumor is that one or two will be removed from that remaining list as well. Do not bother with that exam if you are not going to work in a state that does not require it, or you have no way to be able to take the NCLEX exam from where you are currently located.

The application for the VSC is now only good for one year.........please do not apply for it until you have passed at least one of the required exams, or you may need to pay an additional fee.

I created a login, but the only option I can see once i login is, " order services from cgfns'. can someone guide me on this, pls?

Hi,

I have applied for VSC and need to request CA BON for License verification. Since I donot have SSN my license is not issused yet. So still can I request for license verification? or for confirmation of NCLEX passed. Do I need to request these things separately or is included in the License Validation Form that is in the VSC handbook packet? And also if I need to request separately how much fee I need to pay for each one? Thank you very much.

This has been answered a few times, Have you tried doing a search or reading through some of the posts in this thread. You should be ok with the form in the handbook and fees should be on the BON website and for CA think it is $60 but have a search or read first to check

wait until you receive your CGFNS ID # thru regular mail or send them an email request or call them which is the fastest way. then register for a new account with your CGFNS ID #. i actually had the same problem, good luck!

I'm planning to take the Certification Program and the exam is scheduled on March 2008 but the requirements are due on december 2007. Would it be possible that i can meet the deadline provided that I mail my apllication to CGFNS this first week of October? How long would it take for the application to reach CGFNS office + the processing time of my application?

By the way I'm from the Philippines..

Do you really need to take CGFNS exam? It really isn't recommended unless state requires it and now not many do.

I think Certification Program will be a great help for me considering the fact that i haven't decided yet where to go. I'm Considering US, UK, and Australia... I think CGFNS is not only for the US but also valid for other countries for me to be eligible for Registration.

CGFNS exam is only valid for the US will not help you to get work elsewhere in the world apart from being able to use the English exam as long as score meets that country's requirement. Also changes in the EU means it is now harder to get a work permit.

Hi ,i graduated nursing school in the czech republic in 1994,I'm US resident and i really want to become RN here in the states(Philadlphia)I didn't hear very good things about Cgfns,does anybody else have any suggestions on how to become RN here without going to nursing school again.Thanks a lot

I can't see you having any problems as long as you can get your transcripts sent to CGFNS, mainly people just require CES which is evaluation of your course you only need to do CGFNS exam if the state requires it but now only a small handful do require it.. Many people have had no problems with CGFNS but usually you do not hear from them. You just need to follow requirements with BON for foreign trained nurse.

i got an email from CGFNS, and they said that they havent receive any proof from BON NM that i passed, to think that it's over 60 days (45-60 days processing time) and they already charged my credit card 2 days after i faxed the form to them... however, I sent an email as well to NM, unfortunately they don't reply and when you call them, a voicemail always answer my call. tough luck!

On the other hand, my friend sent her license verification form to BON CA for her VSC, and she got her status "passed", to think that i applied 2 weeks earlier....

Oh well, i don't know what to do now. maybe, wait... wait... and wait... :o:angryfire:madface::uhoh3:

PA actually requires the CGFNS exam for initial licensure, but you can endorse without the exam. Suggest that you go that route.

If you have the appropriate hours listed on your transcript, then there is no reason for you to have to attend school again. You are required to have theory and clinical hours in all of the required areas.

Suggest that you read the Primer that I wrote here to get more specifics as to what is required of you to be able to get a license here.
