Visa Screen Certificate / CGFNS

World Registration

Published

Visa Screen Certificate is required by all foreign nurses wishing to obtain a green card to work in the US, as well as any type of temporary work permit, such as the Nafta TN Visa for those from Canada and Mexico.

It requires that you pass either the NCLEX-RN or the CGFNS exam, as well as the series of English exams if you are not exempt from them.

The CGFNS exam is only required now in about five states, and rumor is that one or two will be removed from that remaining list as well. Do not bother with that exam if you are not going to work in a state that does not require it, or you have no way to be able to take the NCLEX exam from where you are currently located.

The application for the VSC is now only good for one year.........please do not apply for it until you have passed at least one of the required exams, or you may need to pay an additional fee.

I would recommend the Full course as will come in handy if you decide to continue further education once in the US

I have applied online for Visa Screen with my CP Certificate and IELTS as my qualification and I did not have to submit the requirements all over again. However, my online status says: License Validation Form from Phils was received but not accepted. I surmise it is because I passed the June 2006 local board. I have passed the retake exam in June 2007 and have on hand the DOLE-issued Certification. I emailed CGFNS & they told me they would only accept documents from PRC. My question is: Does PRC provide CGFNS a list of those who passed the retake of Tests 3&5? or do I have to go to PRC and have them accomplish the Request for Validation of Registration/License, pay the fee and the courier cost all over again? :uhoh3:

I personally would play safe and send request and pay again.

Hello all!

I am a Canadian LPN working in Acute care here at a major regional . hospital. I have just read 33 pages here and have valued all the info. My situation is this; I wrote and passed the NCLEX-PN in may '07 and have received an active Arizona license that I applied for. I have applied for my VisaScreen and am awaiting my certificate. There has been a hitch as they did not accept my transcripts, so I am having those resent and keeping my fingers crossed. My husband and I are hoping to move to Arizona as soon as all is received. Does this sound possible?

I am also considering travel nursing, as I have talked with a recruiter, and I am wondering if I need my VisaScreen for this. I don't know of any LPN's up here that have done any of this so have pursued it all on my own thus far. I stumbled onto this site a few months back and can't impress enough how great it is and how helpful to so many.

Thanks in advance for any input here.

Cant wait for some Arizona sunshine;)

As far as I am aware you need to be RN for TN and vsc not LPN. Have you checked out the couple of threads in the Canadian forum on this or tried the search

From all my info I can apply as an LPN. I will do some more searching and again appreciate any and all input. Thanks so much.

Another thought, why would the CGFNS accept my application and be processing it if this was not a possibility? Why would Az. issue me a license? Am I wasting my time and money?

I am also considering taking my RN through Excelsior once in the states.

Do I just have pipe dreams? AAArg.

If you meet requirements for LPN then you can sit the exam it has nothing to do with immigration. CGFNS will accept your application and fees as they evaluate to ensure that you meet immigration requirements or BON requirements depending on application. Not always possible. There are a few posts of Philippine LPN's who have passed the exam but found they did not meet immigration requirements of RN and had to return back to the Philippines.

Thanks so much for this info Silverdragon. I appreciate your knowledge and prompt reply. I have been working on this whole thing since January of this year, and it has been a long haul. I seem to keep running into hurdles, so far I've jumped over them, but feel dismayed that I may be defeated. I am going to call CGFNS right now and see if I can get their clarification.

Again, many thanks and I will keep you posted.

Good luck but you may find it easier to do a bridge program and get RN under your belt

Thanks again, I guess I will see what happens, and look at starting my RN process. I am motivated and can not give up now.
