UK Nurse Registration Full Application and Assessment stage before OSCE

Published

Hi People

I am a UK born citizen trained in Australia hence I am going via the overseas trained route. I passed my CBT test and am in the full application and assessment stage.

I am interested in sharing information with people who are also in this stage of the application.

I commenced my application in 2013 under the old process which was rejected due to lack of clinical hours. I received a letter from NMC advising me of the new process. Like many people on this forum, this entire process has been long, drawnout, frustrating and tedious for me!!!!!!!

Hi to all!

Anyone here who have updates regarding the OSCE schedules? Did someone already finished the full application and assessment process? Thanks!

Dear Krismm

I created this page so that we could all share our experiences of the full application and assessment page. Please do not ask anyone for personal email addresses. I do not want this thread to be closed. Please interact through this thread.

If you go through all the postings on this thread you will more than likely get the answers to your queries.

My apology. I didn't know that obtaining of personal mail is prohibited.

Anyway, i just want to know what are the files that you've sent to nmc, do they need the original ones or a photocopy will do? Thank you

In person, after waiting 2 hours in the office, NMC has clarified that once all your stuff is submitted, it will take 30 to 90 WORKING days to actually look at. They don't care if we have deadlines or lives

I suggest all you others who submitted under the old process and are now waiting yet again for them to re-assess the same documents to join me and file an official complaint. We shouldn't have to wait the same amount as the other applicants since we've already played the waiting game once.

I'm getting really tired of this whole process and am just about ready to throw in the towel. I can't stand to be this frustrated anymore. Between having to wait for them to assess our applications for a second time and spending lots of $$$ re-sending documents that they have previously received/lost, I'm done. I just feel like my time would be better spent doing something else. But good luck to you all! I hope everything works out. And hopefully if enough people complain, the NMC will make some changes (like transferring over previously received documents) for those transitioning from the old process to the new - but I won't hold my breath.

Hi UK Gal

Im also undergoing the process for registration with the NMC under their new process.

Ive finished going through the whole application pack, and according to the tracking info on my packages the NMC has received all the requirements. Im wondering if theres anyone here that is at this stage as well or has finished this part, that has any idea if the NMC actually sends confirmation about the receipt of our documents and how long it will take them to reply that were eligible to take the OSCE. Ive heard its a maximum of 6 weeks waiting time, but i cant confirm the information on the NMC application guide.

They do not give you a confirmation that they've received your documents. I've been told they need 30 to 90 "working days" which can mean well over 3 months of waiting time... After that they will send you an email to confirm that you're eligible to schedule the OSCE. My documents were submitted 1 month ago and I still haven't received any news.

The NMC was encouraging me to switch to the new system, but I chose not once I realized that I neede to re-submit everything. I am so disgusted with this process. I am awaiting to take the OnP course....and add to that another hurdle of finding a clinical placement. It frustrates me the ambiguity. I am a Masters prepared nurse for &@'# sake!

No they do not. You need to follow up at least every other week.

Go to your local police station...and get the state background check. There are other companies that assist with nation wide checks, like we did for nursing school.

So its really back to just waiting and praying that its gets done. Its been barely a week since they received my last document and seeing as its been a month for you with still no news, its still going to take a whole lot of waiting on my side.

Excessive follow up does seem to be something that's necessary when dealing with the NMC.
