UK Nurse Registration Full Application and Assessment stage before OSCE

World Registration

Hi People

I am a UK born citizen trained in Australia hence I am going via the overseas trained route. I passed my CBT test and am in the full application and assessment stage.

I am interested in sharing information with people who are also in this stage of the application.

I commenced my application in 2013 under the old process which was rejected due to lack of clinical hours. I received a letter from NMC advising me of the new process. Like many people on this forum, this entire process has been long, drawnout, frustrating and tedious for me!!!!!!!

Hi foxtrotunicorns

I contacted the NMC by phone in February. They informed me that documents would be uploaded onto our online accounts in approximately 15 working days (3 weeks). To date they have not added any of the documents, which were posted, onto my account. It's been well over 3 weeks that most of my stuff was sent.

So, they told you it takes 30 - 90 days.... It just gets from BAD to WORSE!!! Going by that then technically it could take them as long as 3 months to tell us anything. It's such a waste of time even phoning them as only 1 out of every 100 advisers knows what they are talking about.

If anyone out there has received any kind of confirmation email or updated profile please let us know....

Hi guys!

I just passed the CBT last week as well and right now I'm wary as to the Assessment stage because the travel nursing agency I applied to is asking me my NMC account details so that they can do the processing for me. I just want to ask if this is proper protocol? Is anyone out there been asked to give out their account details too?

And, I asked what kind of paperwork is needed for the Assessment stage. And my agent told me that it's kind of like the old process where there are "certificates" that need to be signed by the school where you graduated nursing, the hospital/company you worked in and the local registry board. These along with your original documents (diploma, transcript, RLE hours, IELTS, etc.) are then shipped via courier to UK NMC directly. Then I must sign a Third party agreement with my agency so that they can process, do follow-ups and schedule the OSCE in my behalf.

I also heard that no one has taken the OSCE yet. And the first takers will still be next month. I haven't heard anyone yet who is done with this stage in their application (in the new process).

So let me get this straight:

1. I do all the processing here locally

2. Then I ship the documents directly to NMC via courier (which will take about 3 weeks)

3. Then after receipt of my documents (hoping that they really do, since they don't actually confirm) i'll have to wait and hope that they update my online account in 3 weeks

4. Then process it (+3 months) - in the meantime, sign a Third party agreement with my agency

5. Then that's the time I can schedule the OSCE test (rather my agency)

6. Eventually fly out to UK

7. Take the OSCE - wait for the results (2 days, right?)

8. Register again as fully registered UK nurse?

We cant really trust anything the NMC says through phone because they have been very inconsistent with their anwers there. Best is through by email or in writing because they can't really afford to be inconsistent there when responding to us. One wrong response could cause them a lawsuit. I suggest you guys emailing them. It may take a while for them to respond but it is probably their most accurate response compared to their call center's response via phone.

Dear Hellsing, BSN, RN

I did write to them. Guess what there response was?????? They chose not to reply!!!!!! They NEARLY ALWAYS delay in responding to emails, and by the time they do respond the problem is already resolved! I believe my transcript of training still needs to be dispatched to them. Once I can confirm that this has been sent I will bother them again!

I did contact the university - they were very helpful and commiserate with the "nmc experience." So it does seem that no one has taken the test yet, but there are a handful of people who have passed through NMC's assessment and have officially scheduled their tests for the beginning of April.

We can't schedule the test or access the additional study materials/videos until NMC gives us the confirmation email (they will also send your name and info to the university so they can release this info to you). They've said that tests will be offered about 6-8x per month and there's a lot of availability... The only problem seems to be the NMC taking so long to process our papers.

They do have a document that provides good study materials in the meantime. I posted the link in an earlier post.

Uk gal - they told me it takes about 11-12 business days to reply. If you call them and reference your email (with the day you sent it) they generally will try to resolve it within that timeframe. But then again, it depends who you talk to... You have to be very assertive with getting answers sometimes.

What's the confirmation email? When you've booked the exam, you mean? So you can only "fully" prepare for the OSCE exam once you've booked it?

Hey, if you don't mind, can I ask about the link? :)

Confirmation email being the one by NMC authorizing they've received and verified your documents and say that you can go ahead and book the second test.

If you look on page 2 of this forum you can find the link I posted for the university's site.

Hi Jabbajaws

Congrats on passing. I'm inviting you to contribute to this site I created as you are now in this stage of the game....!!!!

No one has yet taken the OSCE, hopefully someone will soon....

Hey everyone, I'm in the application process now myself and waiting on my "police clearance" to come back. FBI states that processing will take 12-14 weeks!! My question to the others who have completed this, what's the fastest way? To go to the state police? TIA!

Good day! I passed the CBT which i took yesterday. When I accessed my account at pearson vue it states there that i passed but when i logged in to my nmc account and view my application it says that my status is still on progress and no input needed. Does anyone of you experienced the same?

@nilasingnahipon, just want to know the process you've undergone for the assessment stage. Is it ok to have your email address so that i can send you my queries? Thank you
