That is a nice site. I'll have to email Arnold.

The Times reports, "Overwhelmed and inadequately trained nurses inadvertently killed and injured thousands of patients every year as hospitals sacrificed safety for an improved bottom line.

And people get upset when I advocate more nurse education...just don't get it!

:nono: :nono: :nono: maybe "they"ll never get it...unless "we" make the rest of the people aware! Thanks for your comment! Susan

call me naive, but i just don't understand why such a dynamic leader would be fired. but sadly, i have seen nurses be terminated for doing the right thing as i am one of those nurses. so yes, i do understand the fury.

It sounds like that nurse manager stepped on some toes. What she did obviously helped the hospital and patients - but it was an embaressment to her superiors. She didnt share the glory. She did in 3mo what they could not. They were looking for an excuse to fire her. I hope she stood up for herself and challenges being fired.

so you think it was all about egos? if so, that is so shabby.

Unfortunately, it's very likely true.

Don't know. But something sounds screwy here.

I'm not a politically-entrenched person. I just wanted happy nurses for happy patients and we made it happen in less than 3 months! I heard nothing but praise for the entire time. When she wrote me up and extended probation (oohhoo) then she rode me the entire time.

Every one of my people, and the other managers, were all in a state of shock as well. But they were scared, too, because they didn't/couldn't/wouldn't stand up loudly as they fear for their own jobs. I understand that.

My quest is to educate as many people as I can about the conditions nurses work under, and, hopefully, be able to bring about the change again. The sad part is it's a small community hospital here on an island where I live, and now have to go elsewhere when I look for another j.o.b.

And it was ALL about egos. My DON is so far removed from reality, and that's why they were in the shape they found themselves to be when I arrived. I was merely trying to keep it that new way, and said so in a managerial email. Guess it embarassed her. Too bad. People in power like that SHOULD be embarased when they make that kind of decision.

now, quietly stepping down from the soap box, putting it in the closet... :o

They made an example of that nurse as she dared to challenge TPTB. I have seen this happen over and over again, sadly.

Nursing leaders must sneakily try to improve things, being sure to suck up to the bigwhigs to avoid being canned. CEO's don't like it when nurses call them on their flowery statements of 'caring' for people, and ask them to demonstrate it.

what/who is TPTB?

and man, do i feel green....this 45 yo bird STILL doesn't understand understand why ceo's wouldn't want positive staff/pt outcomes if it doesn't cost them anything..... :o

Whoooot ! You nailed it with that last statement, Mattsmom ! And it is precicely this which irritates the heck out of me.... yes, even at my job, the one I so dearly love... we, too, must deal with the hypocricy of upper management. Makes me want to spit sh*t. :angryfire
